The Mammoth or Woolly Mammoth, is one of the Mammals in ARK: Survival Evolved. Mammoths are a large, relatively slow but powerful creature that live in the colder areas of the island. It is one of the only creatures that can effectively gather Thatch, with the others being Doedicurus and Megaloceros.
This section is intended to be an exact copy of what the survivor Helena Walker, the author of the dossiers, has written. There may be some discrepancies between this text and the in-game creature.

Seeing the likes of Mammuthus steincaput alongside dinosaurs is still strange. This behemoth towers over many creatures on the Island, and doesnt seem to fear anything but the Tyrannosaurus. I've seen them stomp would-be predators out of their way. Mammoths can grab and throw things with their powerful trunks, and manage a fearsome trumpeting roar with them as well. At first, I wondered how herds of Mammoths were able to find enough plant life to graze on. But then I saw them sweeping up thatch and foliage with their tusks, and stomping branches out of trees. Mammoths generally thrive in colder areas and have a herd mentality. They must spend much of their time travelling between the mountains' cold summit and more lush base. And maybe their herds are why the summits are so barren.
Mammuthus steincaput is a difficult beast to domesticate. Not because they are inherently stubborn, but because knocking one out to begin the taming process takes great effort. Once tamed, however, Mammoths are one of the only creatures on the island that can uproot trees without shattering them, and their trunks are strong enough to lift and carry survivors and other smaller creatures. Lately, survivors have been saddling up their mammoths to ride in tandem. The more clever riders have even been outfitting their mammoth saddles with war drums. It turns out that drum solos from mammothback can really boost your tribemates spirits.
Mammoths are herd animals, meaning that if one gets attacked, any other nearby Mammoths come charging in and start attacking what attacked them. If you attacked one by accident and you don't want to fight just run a few meters, they will stop chasing you after just a few seconds. Despite their obvious size and power, they nonetheless frequently fall victim to the powerful carnivores that roam along side them; despite the dossier claiming that they fear nothing but Tyrannosaurus, their main predators seem to be Direwolves, Carnotaurus and Yutyranus.
The Mammoth is a large, furry mammal that can be found wandering around the sides or bases of mountains. Out of its proud skull grows a kind of hair cap, like a crown. Its thick pelt is textured with thin, horizontal wave-like stripes. Like every other elephant and elephant-like species, it sports elephant-like feet, a short, stubby tail, and a long trunk for a nose. Its distinctive tusks grow a way similar to African elephants. But, unlike the still living elephant species and even the ones found in the fossil records, the tusks branch out near the base, with the second 'branches' clearly spirally turned upwards, with the pointed ends facing each other. There are also thorns on those segments along with a few thorns under the branching area. In addition, the mouth has smaller, upward-facing tusks.
This section displays the Mammoth's natural colors and regions. For demonstration, the regions below are colored red over an albino Mammoth. The colored squares shown underneath each region's description are the colors that the Mammoth will randomly spawn with to provide an overall range of its natural color scheme. Hover your cursor over a color to display its name and ID.
This information can be used to alter the Mammoth's regions by entering cheat SetTargetDinoColor <ColorRegion> <ColorID>
in the cheat console. For instance, cheat SetTargetDinoColor 0 6
would color the Mammoth's "main body" magenta.

Type in values of a wild creature to see on which stats it's emphasized. Green values on a high-level creature are very good for breeding. If you have already tamed your creature you can try to recover the breeding stats with an external tool.[1]
The stat-calculator does not work in the mobile-view, see here for alternatives: Apps
Note that after the creature is tamed it gets bonuses on some stats depending on the taming effectiveness. This makes it hard to retrieve the levels on a tamed creature, so this tool is only for wild ones, but gives a first impression, how well the stats are distributed.

The Mammoth Saddle has a special passenger sit where the passenger can play music with the drum by playing a minigame, if the minigame is played well every three good rounds the drum will give

This section describes how to fight against the Mammoth.
The Mammoth is extremely slow, the easiest way to gain its precious pelt is using a Metal Hatchet. Its knockback effect can be extremely dangerous (be careful while attacking them near a cliff). It is passive unless provoked.
Start attacking from the back or you can use a crossbow and run away. Engaging in melee attacks can be extremely dangerous. If you have a high level sabertooth or other creature, use it to tank damage while you shoot at it from afar. When attacking one mammoth, other mammoths will run after you too, but they stop after a few seconds.
To kill a mammoth, you should use metal weapons and guns. Those would be the easiest ways to kill it.
Getting seriously hurt, strong knockback and being overwhelmed from herd (rare), running into more aggressive predators.
The mammoth is quite slow, which means that you can easily stay a few paces in front of it, and pelt it with bullets.
For general info about domesticating a wild creature see Taming.
The Mammoth is tamed violently, i.e. it must be knocked out and fed with food it likes.
Kite it like anything else, they're relatively slow. Use caution when taming a Mammoth as the location in which they spawn (the snow biome) is usually littered with animals that want to kill you and the low temperatures will slowly drain your life, if unable to protect yourself against the weather, you might want to try and kite them out of the snow biome into the warmer jungle. If you have a quetzal, use it to your advantage by carrying it to somewhere safe or a pen.

While the Mammoth doesn't have complicated controls, it does have a more unique skill set than what you'd find with the average tame, with each move performing a specific function. Its standard attack (default,
,
), while not as damaging as its stomp attack (default Space,
,
), can be aimed more precisely and has a higher rate of attack speed when facing directly forward; allowing its tusks to potentially outpace the long-term damage output of the stomps. For the purpose of gathering, the primary tusk attack is used for gathering
Thatch, while the stomp attack is more useful for gathering
Wood. The crouch button (default C,
,
) triggers the Mammoth's bellow ability; applying the
Intimidated debuff against nearby enemies. If the Mammoth recently stepped in water, using this ability also causes it to spray water with its trunk, which can cancel the burning effects of various fire breaths on itself and close allies. Lastly, the secondary attack button (default
,
,
) triggers the Mammoth's trunk grab ability, which allows it to pick up and carry various smaller targets. Pressing this button a second time will cause the Mammoth to release and throw the carried player or creature in the direction the targeting reticle is facing. While being carried by the trunk, enemy targets can be gored by the tusks or crushed with the stomp attacks.
The following creatures can be carried by a Mammoth.
