The Crystal Wyvern Queen is a Boss in ARK: Survival Evolved's Expansion Map Crystal Isles.
Basic Info
Behavior
As a boss, she will attack players and tames on sight. Throughout the fight, she will occasionally switch between phases of flying and grounded combat.
Appearance
An enormous Crystal Wyvern with crystals all along her head, back and shoulders. Upon her head is what appears to be the stripped-clean skull of another Wyvern worn over her face like a helmet.
The membranes of her wings have a unique pattern on them compared to other Wyverns. Her pupils are fully dilated, making her eyes look completely black, resembling Blood Crystal Wyvern.
Similarly to other bosses, the Crystal Wyvern Queen's coloration is dependent on which difficulty it is fought. On Gamma, many of her color regions are light green. On Beta, her color regions are blue. Lastly, on Alpha, her color regions are red. She also has a fourth coloration which consists of an orange tone, however this is never seen normally in-game, and may only be accessed with commands.
Color Scheme and Regions
The Crystal Wyvern Queen always spawns with the same color scheme and has no color regions.
This means it is currently impossible to make alterations to the Crystal Wyvern Queen's colors.

Wild Stats Level-up
Type in values of a wild creature to see on which stats it's emphasized. Green values on a high-level creature are very good for breeding. If you have already tamed your creature you can try to recover the breeding stats with an external tool.[1]
The stat-calculator does not work in the mobile-view, see here for alternatives: Apps
Note that after the creature is tamed it gets bonuses on some stats depending on the taming effectiveness. This makes it hard to retrieve the levels on a tamed creature, so this tool is only for wild ones, but gives a first impression, how well the stats are distributed.
Combat
This section describes how to fight against the Crystal Wyvern Queen.
General
The Crystal Wyvern Queen will switch between phases of grounded and flying combat as she reaches certain health percentage thresholds. At the start of the fight, she will fight grounded on the nest at the opposite end of the arena. During this, she will fight against players and tames with bite attacks, breath attacks from all Crystal Wyvern types, and large wing flaps to blow everything away. When attacking a distant target, she may utilize her breath attack in the form of a concentrated ball that can travel a long distance. This attack is capable of hitting mounted players. Periodically, she will summon eggs that will hatch into rapidly-growing Crystal Wyvern Heir, acting as minions.
Once she loses enough health, she will enter her flying phase. During this phase, she possesses all of her previous abilities except for the wing flap attack. She will continue to fly until she has reached her next threshold of health, which she will go back to her grounded phase on a different nest.
She will switch between phases six times throughout the fight, where she will be defeated during her third flying phase.
Strategy
The Crystal Wyvern Queen is not a boss to be underestimated. With a plethora of combat abilities, different phases, and strong minions, she proves to be one of ARK's most formidable bosses. As such, it is recommended for players to approach this fight fully equipped with gear and a strong army of tames.
While the arena itself poses no hazard to the player's health, the Crystal Wyvern Queen's concentrated "breath ball" attack is capable of hitting mounted survivors and inflicting them with a health draining damage-over-time effect. This makes bringing at least one full suit of armor and several Medical Brew an absolute necessity. It is also recommended to bring an extra supply of Food and Water, as due to the bosses' great health and multiple phases, the fight tends to last longer than most other bosses.
Due to the Crystal Wyvern Queen's ability to fly, it is strongly recommended for players to bring either their own flying tames or means for ranged combat such as a Pump-Action Shotgun. The Recommended Tames portion lists many different tames that player's can bring for the battle.
Recommended Tames
- Tropeognathus can be very useful due to their flak cannons on their saddles, their maneuverability, and their decent stats.
- Argentavis are a good substitute to Crystal Wyvern, because they can utilize saddle armor and can output similar damage to the Crystal Wyvern. However, their comparably slow speed to other flyers makes attacking during the bosses' flying phase difficult.
- Therizinosaurs are one of the best choices as they have high damage and can be healed with Sweet Vegetable Cake. This allows them to stay at nearly full health while killing both the Queen and her spawned Crystal Wyvern Heir.
- Deinonychus are good choice for damaging the Crystal Wyvern Queen, as its bleed mechanic works on Bosses. Just remember, in order to get them, you have to travel to Valguero or Fjordur because they do not spawn in Crystal Isles.
- Woolly Rhino are a good choice due to their high damage output. They can also be healed with Sweet Vegetable Cake.
- Crystal Wyvern are valuable due to their high speed, good damage output, and ability to attack the boss while in its flying phase. Additionally, as Crystal Wyverns, they will resist their type's respective breath attack from the boss and her minions.
- Yutyrannus or 2 (preferably mate boosted) should always be brought into any arena as it's one of the most valuable creature for Boss fights due to its courage roar ability and good stats, making them a jack-of-all-trades mount.
- Daeodon can also be valuable due to their healing ability, if players are willing to put in the effort of micromanaging their food.
Dangers
The Crystal Wyvern Queen possess multiple types of breath attacks in the form of a projectile ball, unless something gets too close to her, which in this case, she will either push off with wings flap, bite, or use the regular variant of multiple type of breath attack. Because of her ability to fire multiple variants of breath, she is immune to all of them.
She often will summon eggs near the nest she currently resides in. These eggs wobble and eventually hatch into baby Crystal Wyvern which grows very fast to Juvenile and Adolescent and finally Adult. They are highly aggressive even when they are still babies (with them spewing crystal breaths).
Weakness
The eggs that she summons throughout the fight are considered entities rather than items. As such, they can be destroyed before they hatch into Crystal Wyvern Heir. The babies that hatch from these eggs do not possess flight at first, but will eventually gain the ability to as they rapidly grow. Players can use this time to kill them easily before they begin to fly.
On the back-left corner of the arena (in relation to where players enter) there is an invisible barrier against a flat wall that players can lure the boss over to during her flying phase. As she tries to attack, she will often dive into the ground, allowing for grounded tames to attack. This can be a sufficient method to damage the boss during the flying phase if players did not bring any ranged combat or their own flying tames.

Notes
- It is the first unique boss battle made for a free Expansion Map.
- Previous map's boss arenas consisted of old bosses such as Valguero containing the Megapithecus, Manticore, and Dragon.
- If you pull up the Admin Command bar and type: Summon BossTeleporter_CIBoss_C and input the code then you will be able to teleport into the Crystal Wyvern Queen's arena and fight the Crystal Wyvern Queens 4th variation.
- The Crystal Wyvern Queen is the second type of Wyvern that can breathe multiple breath attacks, the first being the Dodo Wyvern.
- The Crystal Wyvern Queen shares a battle theme with the Dragon instead of having its own.
- It is impossible to preserve her skull helmet, as it does not appear on either her Dermis nor the Crystal Wyvern Queen Trophy.
- This is likely a bug similarly to how the Forest Titan's taxidermy has no arms.
- The way she lays eggs and they hatch and grow overtime is reminiscent of the Anacthyon boss in the Atlas Expansion Map Blackwood.
- She is the third boss that is confirmed to be female, the first being the Broodmother and the second being Moeder, Master of the Ocean.
- The Crystal Wyvern Queen is the 3rd boss to specifically be based on a real mythological creature, the 1st being the Dragon and the 2nd being the Manticore.
- Interestingly, all 3 can fly as well.
