Wild

I've found just the friend to get you through these low places, but you're going to need to keep an open mind. Though I guess anyone that's made it this far shouldn't be afraid of an itsy bitsy jumping spider. Not to mention that there's more to this shy little charmer than meets the eyes (all eight of 'em)... With all the horrors crawling around down here, it's easy to see why any spider might be a bit jumpy. And why it might have needed a clever new trick of its own to keep the shadows at bay. Cosmophasis seems to know when predators can be chased away by its glowing webbing. That same danger-sense tells the spider to turn out the light when something comes seeking it.

Domesticated

It's never easy to win someone over who's had to hide their light away in dark times. But once you do, you'll have a ride or die angle on your shoulder. Gain this spider's trust, and Cosmophasis will help you out of sticky situations and put its life in your hands for the toughest fights ahead. And I mean that figuratively. Your fuzzy new friend can gobble up the webbing of larger spiders to recycle as ammunition. Then you can use it as a handheld web-shooter to slow down incoming enemies, snatch up items from the ground, and swing around like a spider-themed superhero!

  • For a comparison of the stats of all creatures, see Base Creature Statistics.
  • For an explanation of exactly how the levelup calculation works, see Creature Stats Calculation.
  • 1These are the base speeds of the tamed creature at 100% Movement Speed, i.e. without a possible taming bonus.
  • 2These are the speeds of the creature once tamed including a possible taming bonus and no imprinting bonus.
  • For a comparison of the speeds of all creatures, see Base Creature Speeds.

Wild Stats Level-up

Type in values of a wild creature to see on which stats it's emphasized. Green values on a high-level creature are very good for breeding. If you have already tamed your creature you can try to recover the breeding stats with an external tool.[1]

Cosmo

The stat-calculator does not work in the mobile-view, see here for alternatives: Apps

Note that after the creature is tamed it gets bonuses on some stats depending on the taming effectiveness. This makes it hard to retrieve the levels on a tamed creature, so this tool is only for wild ones, but gives a first impression, how well the stats are distributed.

Passive

Shoulder Pet

Cosmo is a shoulder pet, meaning that it can be picked up by the player on his shoulder, allowing Cosmo to attack from the player's shoulder if it has range, also it cannot take damage unless the player dies or is thrown off the shoulder by the player.

While in shoulder the weight that Cosmo has in its inventory will weigh half as much to the player.

Cosmo Wrist-Shooter

When Cosmo is picked up, a  Cosmo Wrist-Shooter is added to the player's inventory. This "weapon" allows Cosmo to go from the player's shoulder to his wrist to allows the use of its abilities.

Here are the ways that its stadistics impact on its shots and webs:

  • Webs maximum capacity is set by the current Cosmo level.
  • Webs recharge rate is set by  Charge Regeneration.

When in shoulder mode, use the radial wheel to toggles Cosmos abilities on or off.

  • Threat Sense: Cosmo glows with a purple aura when nameless are nearby.
  • Charge Infused Webs: Debuffs creatures weak to light such as  Nameless and  Reapers, disabling their natural armor.

Roles

Taming

Cosmo is tamed non-violently using  Chitin and  Plant Species Z Seed.

With  Chitin in your inventory, go close to a nearby landed Cosmo. After a while when it spots you, it slowly approaches you until it is close enough to emit charge light and does a little dance, in which you can feed it. When you feed it and it is not tamed yet, it will start wandering around again (sometimes swinging on a web sling) before its hungry enough again to approach you. Repeat the process, and eventually and it will be tamed.

Notes

For information pertaining specifically to the real-world Cosmo, see the relevant Wikipedia article.

  • Cosmophasis Luxtextor means "Light Weaver". Probably referencing its glowing webbing.
  • The Cosmo's concept design and creation was likely a response to the positive feedback from the Maevia Eureka, a community-made creature that was created for the Aberration creature vote. After the  Yi Ling won the vote, many players said that they preferred that the Maevia Eureka would've won instead.
    • This could also mark the third time that a creature or creature concept that did not win the vote was added as a result of a Creature Poll or positive feedback on the concept. The first being the  Sinomacrops, the second being the  Carcharodontosaurus.
  • According to its dossier, the Cosmo is a part of the genus Cosmophasis, which includes jumping spiders that mostly specialize in ant mimicry. One particular species, the green ant hunter (C. bitaeniata), uses chemical mimicry to avoid being attacked by the weaver ants whose larvae it preys upon.
    • Its design and appearance is also likely inspired by the genus Maratus, which includes jumping spiders commonly known as "peacock spiders". Males of this genus sport colorful and sometimes iridescent patterns on their abdomens, often enhanced with tufts or fringes of hair, which are used to attract females in courtship displays.
  • The Cosmo's web-based abilities are very likely to be inspired by and a reference to Spider-Man, a superhero character from the Marvel franchise of comics and films who can produce webs.
  • Its taming method is based on the popular children's game of Red Light, Green Light.
