Abilities
Sir-5rM8 has four different modes of operation. By default, when thrown, the little robot will be in Follower mode. Using the radial option when looking at it will give you the option to change its mode to either Harvester, Repair, or Butler. While in Follower mode, Sir-5rM8 can be commanded like any other tame.
Harvester Mode
In harvester mode, Sir-5rM8 will wander around and gather items for you, depending on what you define as its input.
- Start by putting a sample of what to harvest into its inventory, then bring up the context menu on the item (on PC, right-click) and Set as input.
- Take a sample of the item to whatever storage location you want Sir-5rM8 to deliver the materials, place into the inventory, then bring up the context menu on the item and Set as input. In the storage location, it'll give you the option of defining the number of stacks; this is how many stacks the robot will add before it stops filling up that location.
Note: for Dedicated Storage, you'll need to Enable Automated Deposit to allow it to drop off items into the dedicated storage.
- Change Sir-5rM8's mode to Harvester and it'll go gather.
Repair Mode
In repair mode, Sir-5rM8 will automatically detect when structures are damaged in your base, gather the materials from storage, and repair the damage. No inputs need to be configured for this mode to work; simply turn on Repair mode and watch it go.
Note: If you are using Dedicated Storage for your source of materials, Enable Automated Withdrawal to allow it to take items from the storage.
Butler Mode
In butler mode, Sir-5rM8 will move items around your base from location to location.
- Start by putting a sample of what Sir-5rM8 needs to pick up and move to another location, then bring up the context menu on the item and Set as input.
- Take a sample of the item to whatever storage location (including crafting locations like forges) you want Sir-5rM8 to deliver the materials, place into the inventory, then bring up the context menu on the item and Set as input. In the storage location, it'll give you the option of defining the number of stacks; this is how many stacks the robot will add before it stops filling up that location.
Note: for Dedicated Storage, you'll need to Enable Automated Deposit and/or Enable Automated Withdrawal to allow it to pick up and drop off items into the dedicated storage.
Examples
To automate the refining of metal to metal ingots, set both Metal and Metal Ingots as inputs on Sir-5rM8, then set Metal as an input on the Forge and Metal Ingots as an input on the storage box. This will cause it to pick up metal from wherever it finds it, drop it into the forge, take the ingots out of the forge, and put them into storage.
To automate crops, set all the items you are growing as inputs on Sir-5rM8, then set then all as inputs with max stacks on a Refrigerator. You can also keep crops fertilized by setting 5 stacks of fertilizer as input on the crop plots, add fertilizer as input on Sir-5rM8, then put fertilizer into a nearby storage box.
