Wild

Is Pyromane a cat that controls fire, or living fire that can make itself look like a cat? It does seem to have more in common with the Phoenix from that desert ARK than any lion. An author named Clarke said sufficiently advanced technology would be indistiguishable from magic...I'd say that whatever engineered this create was plenty advanced.
An unruffled Pyromane will stay at a low burn and shrink its profile. But when rovoked,m that small cat can suddenly flare itself up into a lion-sized inferno.
It seems to drink in any nearby fire, using that power to cauterize its own wounds and power up its arsenal of incendiary attacks.

Domesticated

I've only seen one tame Pyromane so far. Its rider seemed unbothered by the beast's flames, and beyond that immune to heat in general while mounted. She claimed it could even carry her safely across a lava field. That survivor said she spent ages trying to win her cat over, before noticing it seemed more sluggish in the rain.
In its smaller form, her pet doubled as a shoulder-mounted feline flamethrower. And back at their campsite, she showed me how her pet could fuel a forge and dry meat into jerky. I can definitely see why such an improbable but versatile creature might have been engineered, even if I don't understand how.

  • 1These are the base speeds of the tamed creature at 100% Movement Speed, i.e. without a possible taming bonus.
  • 2These are the speeds of the creature once tamed including a possible taming bonus and no imprinting bonus.

Wild Stats Level-up

Type in values of a wild creature to see on which stats it's emphasized. Green values on a high-level creature are very good for breeding. If you have already tamed your creature you can try to recover the breeding stats with an external tool.[1]

Pyromane

The stat-calculator does not work in the mobile-view, see here for alternatives: Apps

Note that after the creature is tamed it gets bonuses on some stats depending on the taming effectiveness. This makes it hard to retrieve the levels on a tamed creature, so this tool is only for wild ones, but gives a first impression, how well the stats are distributed.

Abilities

Active

(note, numbers may not be exact)

Bite
LeftRTR2ZR
  • The Pyromane bites the target in front of it for 35 damage and causes a stacking effect called Pyromane Enflamed. Stacks to 10.
  • Can be used every 0.67s by both a rider and the AI.

Flame Leap
RightLTL2ZL
  • The Pyromane leaps through the air, damaging anything it hits.
  • Can be used every 5.0s by both a rider and the AI.

Flame Trail
Hold Right LT L2 LT
  • The Pyromane leaves a trail of fire in its wake by consuming absorbed flames. Does not work in the rain. Lasts until button is released or stored fire is depleted.

Flame Absorb
Ctrl + Right LT L2 LT
  • The Pyromane absorbs fire from nearby sources. Has 30s cooldown.

Flame Boost
Ctrl + Left RT R2 RT
  • The Pyromane boosts its damage by 50% at the expense of its absorbed flames. Lasts until cancelled or stored fire is depleted.

Swap to Shoulder Pet
  • The Pyromane changes form to its shoulder pet appearance.

Passive

Raw meat and fish in the Pyromane's inventory will be cooked at a similar rate to a campfire. It will also automatically generate Cooked Meat Jerky and Prime Meat Jerky from the cooked meat in its inventory without the need for oil.

The Pyromane can provide fuel to objects that burn wood like Campfires and Refining Forges. The radius can be configured using the radial menu of the Pyromane, with settings to be Off, Low (about 4 foundations), Medium (about 10 foundations), or High (about 18 foundations).

The Pyromane has the ability to transform from a kitten-sized shoulder pet to a full lion-sized mount. Using the radial menu while dismounted will cause the Pyromane to transform and remain on the ground. However, if transformed while mounted, the Pyromane will go immediately to your shoulders (assuming you have no other tame you're carrying). If you order it to transform while carrying it, you will be mounted on the Pyromane's back once the transformation is complete. When attacked in kitten form, the Pyromane will immediately transform into lion form to fight back.

On your shoulders, the Pyromane will give you a Cuddled by Fire buff, which significantly raises your cold and heat resist values. While mounted on the Pyromane, you'll receive the buff Wreathed in Fire, imparting a significant buff to cold resist and a massive buff to heat resistance, high enough to enter lava without taking damage.

When the tamed Pyromane enters water, it will receive the Doused debuff. When doused, the Pyromane is unable to perform Flame Leap; melee attacks do not cause targets to catch fire; the buffs for Wreathed in Fire and Cuddled by Fire are no longer active; and the Pyromane loses the "mane" of fire that is its namesake. The debuff only lasts for 5 seconds once out of water. Notably, the passive cooking and area of effect powering up wood-based objects are unaffected by the debuff.

When pooping, the Pyromane drops Flaming Medium Animal Feces instead of Medium Animal Feces. Both forms of feces can be mixed in a Compost Bin to create Fertilizer.

Combat

Drops

Nothing. On death, they explode, leaving no corpse.

Utility

Roles

Taming

To tame your own Pyromane, kite it to a body of water so that it acquires the Doused debuff. Continue to attack it to bring its health down to below 50%. Once sufficiently weakened, you should be able to interact with it to mount it. Once mounted, attack nearby creatures to apply a burning effect, then use Flame Absorb (ctrl-secondary) to absorb the flame to progress the taming meter.

On Scorched Earth, Pyromane spawn in the wyvern trench, around which are no bodies of water. However, a wyvern is capable of carrying a Pyromane, so you'll need to pick up your target and drop it in the nearest body of water (for example, around the Red or Blue Obelisk) to tame them.

Mating

Female Pyromane can only mate while in large form. Turning them into small form with mating enabled will display a message above their nameplate stating "Cannot Mate in Small Form". However, male Pyromane are able to mate while in small form. Pyromane gestate their fetuses and are prevented from transforming while gestating. During the gestation cooldown, female Pyromane can be transformed into their small form; while the gestation cooldown timer will not appear on the small form nameplate, it will continue to count down while transformed.

    • NOTE** A bug at release currently causes born babies to spawn as wild babies that cannot be imprinted.

Spotlight

Notes

  • The Pyromane bears a very strong resemblance to the  Shadowmane:
    • It is possible that recycled assets from the Shadowmane were used for the Pyromane as it has a similar model, design, and abilities (ex: The Pyromane's Flame Leap).
    • Another possibility is that the Pyromane and Shadowmane might be related in genetics as "Leoforma" is mentioned in the dossier. (Note: we have seen this before with the "Draconis" genus for the  Wyvern,  Rock Drake, and  Managarmr.)
  • Players have noted that the Pyromane's design and abilities have an uncanny resemblance to the Pyroar from the Pokemon franchise.
  • Male and female Pyromane can be visually distinguished by their neck. Males have much larger flames around their neck, obscuring their skin underneath. This additional "mane" is consistent with real world lions, whereby males have a much more prominent mane.
