The Attack Drone is a creature in ARK: Survival Evolved, and one of the two minions that defend the Overseer. They are also known to appear across other maps, like both of Genesis.
Basic Info
With the introduction of the Overseer, Attack Drones and Defense Units were added to serve as minions. They are summoned throughout the battle. They drop
Element upon death, which can be helpful to players using Tek during the Boss fight. Any Element collected during the fight will disintegrate afterwards when the player Ascends.
Behavior
Attack Drones hover high above the ground and continuously distance themselves from the player and continuously shoot at a slow pace. When it is killed, it will drop down in a tail spin, burning on fire, till it crashes onto the ground and blows up, dropping a single Element.
Appearance
Attack Drones appear as real-life drones, with a futuristic touch. Upon closer inspection, the Attack Drone is actually part-creature, part-robot, a cyborg essentially. It has a booster jet on its belly as well as 2 "wings" or hover pads to fly, and 2 small cannon arms to shoot tek plasma bolts. It has many broken up white eye-like patches on the face and shiny tek on its back, both of which glow along with a slight glow in the rest of the body. A caved-in depression on the face resembles a mouth. The flesh is not uniform, but spindly and weird like in the Defense Unit. The whole body is adorned with different pieces of tek metal.
Variants
Malfunctioned Attack Drone
Malfunctioned Attack Drone is the Malfunctioned variant of the Attack Drone, found during Missions of Genesis: Part 1. It is not tameable.

Wild Stats Level-up
Type in values of a wild creature to see on which stats it's emphasized. Green values on a high-level creature are very good for breeding. If you have already tamed your creature you can try to recover the breeding stats with an external tool.[1]
The stat-calculator does not work in the mobile-view, see here for alternatives: Apps
Note that after the creature is tamed it gets bonuses on some stats depending on the taming effectiveness. This makes it hard to retrieve the levels on a tamed creature, so this tool is only for wild ones, but gives a first impression, how well the stats are distributed.
Combat
This section describes how to fight against the Attack Drone.
General
The Attack Drone is spawned in continuously throughout the boss fight, with groups of them with the one purpose to attack the survivor from the air, purposefully distancing itself to make it difficult for most dinosaurs or melee attacks to reach it. Along with the Defense Units, they attempt to distract the survivor in order to protect the
Overseer.
Strategy
Since the Attack Drone continuously distances itself from its targets, using ranged attacks/weaponry is an effective option. Depending on the strength of an individual bow or gun, most should be able to kill the Attack Drones in good time. Just keep in mind to have sufficient armor to withstand the tek plasma blasts if need be.
Weaponry
Assault Rifles,
Rocket Launchers,
Fabricated Sniper Rifles,
Compound Bows and other powerful ranged weaponry are effective against these minions. Tek weapons like the
Tek Rifle are also highly recommended, as they are powerful, reliable, and as a plus, when an Attack Drone dies, it will drop 1
Element item which can be used for ammo.
Dangers
A single Attack Drone is actually not too powerful as its small tek cannons that it will shoot at the survivor will not do much damage and are fired slowly, though its health is rather sizable and they are hard to reach as they fly above. They often are more of an annoyance and distraction to the survivor in the battle arena rather than a significant threat. But don't get too relaxed, as it would be a mistake just to ignore them; the most dangerous thing that can occur when confronting the Attack Drones is when their numbers become too large and if one does not keep their size down by killing them off, they may overwhelm the survivor with a flurry of tek plasma bolts in their sheer numbers and prevent him/her from damaging the Overseer enough.
Weakness
The Pump-Action Shotgun deals a lot of damage to an Attack Drone. But be mindful that in order to effectively damage it, you must be close to the drone, like right below it, while firing.

Notes
- Released in patch 267.0.
- Bug: As of v267.21 and even still at this moment, years later in v304.445, Attack Drones can be knocked-out and tamed through normal game-play. While it is not recommended to attempt to tame one during the Overseer battle (the tamed drone will be deleted upon Ascension and cannot be put into a
Cryopod), it favours
Kibble (Allosaurus Egg) and will eat any form of Meat. Additionally, the Attack Drone also shares much of its code with the
Tapejara, so two Attack Drones can also breed to produce Tapejara offspring. An Attack Drone tamed normally cannot be ridden, as it will not accept any saddles. Its innate behavior of keeping its distance from the player or creatures is also retained when tamed and will back off a distance if one gets to close to its front side, though approaching it from the side or back will not cause it to back away.
- It seems as though this has been patched and the Attack Drone can no longer be tranquilized or tamed in any way. This is due to the fact that attack Drones could be found in the Lunar biome with the release of Genesis: Part 1, where they could be found and tamed in the open world. Never being intended to be tamed, but also never being very available to be tamed as they used to be only found in boss fights; this is the reason it remained tameable for so long.
- Attack Drones can be forcetamed and ridden, but upon mounting, the player will appear to become the Attack Drone as the player is invisible. The same thing also occurs when a forcetamed
Seeker is ridden. Both 'creatures' may result in the player being stuck in ghost mode when dismounted, and if the fly command or creative mode is not in use, the player is in real danger of falling through the world and dying.
- A forcetamed Attack Drone will also show the option for passenger seating like a
Tapejara Saddle, though the option does not work.
- When riding an Attack Drone, Lmb will shoot the plasma cannons and Rmb will do a "melee" attack. This melee attack is the same in animation as the shooting attack, but without the projectile. The melee attack is also very buggy and almost never can hit a target with it. You can also "walk" while riding an Attack Drone.
- A forcetamed Attack Drone will also show the option for passenger seating like a
- The Attack Drone is one of the few creatures to not have a written dossier.
- The tek cannons of the Attack Drone will do the same damage, regardless if it is gamma, beta, or alpha.
- If one spawns in and tames a large amount of Attack Drones, they can be quite useful in swarming enemy dinos, killing them with their tek plasma cannons while staying out of reach. They can also snipe smaller targets with incredibly accurate precision. On top of that, their
Health is good enough to survive a lot of punishment.
- Oddly enough, when compared to the other Corrupted Dinotar, the Corrupted variant of Attack Drone still shows it as "Corrupted Attack Drone", rather than "Corrupted Dinotar".
- It doesn't have any color regions .
