The Tek Tier is a set of endgame structures and equipment using very advanced technology. The first wave was released January 30, 2017.

All Tek Tier objects (Excluding Extinction-exclusive Tekgrams, Cryopods and Cryofridge, and robotic creatures) requires defeating bosses in order to craft and use (i.e. even if somebody gives you a  Tek Helmet, you can't equip it until you defeat its required boss). However, Tek Structures can be placed without learning the tekgram (but will require its corresponding tekgram to use), and utilize  Element to craft and power (Foundations and Walls do not count for power).

Defeating any higher difficulty bosses will unlock all lower tier Tekgrams for that boss.

Tek saddles can still be placed and used like regular saddles, but firing projectiles or removing is not possible unless the survivor mounting on the said dino has its tekgram.

Much like  Titanosaur, tamed Titans will automatically possess an unremovable tek variant of Platform Saddle on them. Unlike the other Tek saddles however, these can't fire projectiles.

Structures can still be placed with or without Tekgram, but interacting with it requires the corresponding Tekgram. NOTE: You can still walk through all tek doors and look through windows even without the Tekgram.

You can't achieve all the Tekgrams in a single map. Aberration has two exclusive Tekgrams but none of the others. Ragnarok has two exclusive Tekgrams as well as about half of the Tekgrams of The Island. The Island is missing the exclusive Tekgrams of both Ragnarok and Aberration. The Center has about three quarters of the Tekgrams of The Island. All Tekgrams of Scorched Earth are also available in The Island and in The Center. So, to achieve all Tekgrams you need to defeat the bosses of Aberration and Ragnarok, and either The Island or The Center. As of patch v281.107, thunderstorms in Scorched Earth ARK will affect the following item:

* = Oddly, Cryofridge will not be disabled during Thunderstorm if it was ran by other power generator such as  Wind Turbine.

In Genesis: Part 1 within the simulation, some of the tek equipments cannot utilize their functions. Only  Tek Helmet,  Tek Gauntlets, and  Tek Boots main functions can be used.

Obtaining Blueprint

Blueprints for Tek Equipment exist, but only on specific DLCs.

Blueprints variants of Tek Tier Armor and weapons can either be found as possible source drops from  Orbital Supply Drops for Extinction and Missions for Genesis: Part 1 and Genesis: Part 2 with the possible chance of it containing a better Item Quality (For weapons), higher durability and/or armor rating (For armor). Most of the blueprints have a limited use of up to 3 times before disintegrating into nothing excluding Tek Bow.

Blueprint variants of Tek Tier Saddles can only be found as possible source drops from missions for Genesis: Part 2 with the possible chance of it containing better armor. There are no quality tag for any saddle much like Tek Armor pieces, and does not have limited uses.

Crafting many of the Tek items requires both Element and  Black Pearls, which can be obtained through various ways.

  • Prior to Extinction DLC, All Tek Equipment did not possess Item Quality.
  • At the release of Extinction,  Rock Drake Tek Saddle tekgram was accidentally removed from the list. It was later reintroduced at 287.123, but survivors who had gotten it prior to its existence vanishing and had come on during its absence do not have the tekgram anymore.
  • As of official release 5 March 2019, Homestead Tek Engrams were only unlock-able on the island server.

Trivia

  • It is possible that the word "Tek" is a reference to the Tek Bow from the Turok series, from which ARK pulls some conceptual inspiration.
  • TEK could have also been a misspell of tech. It’s a very little possibility.

Lore

  • In the ARK universe, Tek tier is a level of futuristic technology that comes from the hypothetical 22nd century or 2100s to an unknown period of time. According to Helena Walker, Tek tier is the highest level of technology she has ever seen.
  • In the lore events before the in-lore character's story began, two superpowers, the United Republics of Earth and Terran Federation are two well known superpowers that utilized Tek tier. Both superpowers had a distinct design with whatever they built.
    • The United Republics of Earth, the superpower responsible for creating the ARKs, had a spiky, rigid design.
      • Their Tek armor, according to Nida, was dubbed "Paladin Class Armor" and it was the basic Tek armor format that players could have.
      • In the ARK's overseer arena and Hall of History, there are many spiky structures.
      • Their specialty technology oriented around the ideals of transhumanism, making humans more than human.
        • This contributed to the rise of the Homo deus.
      • Most tek engrams are this instead of the exo fed
        • Even in the sim you still get spiky tek items
    • The Terran Federation, the superpower responsible for creating the Colony Ship, had a smooth, defined design.
      • Their Tek armor, as seen in Genesis Part: 2, is dubbed Federation Exo-Armor and it is the armor players can receive at the start of the DLC.
      • All over the Colony Ship, the bridges, towers, hallways, and exterior is mostly smooth.
      • Their specialty technology focused on mass ecological geoengineering.
        • These projects soon lead to the largest artificial biomes found on the ARKs and Colony Ship (before Rockwell got on the ship).
