Corrupted Creatures
![]() |
This article is about content exclusive to the DLC: Extinction |
Corrupted Creatures are a variant of normal Creatures corrupted by Element that are found on Extinction, the corruption enslaving their behavior into a "hive-mentality". Creatures that are corrupted are more powerful, extremely aggressive (regardless of their previous Temperament), and untameable. All Corrupted Creatures can destroy
Tek-tier Structures and will attack the structure when in range (which only applies in PvP).
Projectiles from corrupted creatures are tinted in purple, and if they are hit by ranged projectile, the hit marker will appear in purple, as opposed to normal/friendly hit marker which appears red/green/orange respectively.
Some creatures drop rare materials like Black Pearl,
AnglerGel, and will often drop
Corrupted Nodule. Corrupted Nodules essentially functions the exact same way as
Organic Polymer does, with a spoilage timer, use as a
Polymer substitute, and a suicide pill when consumed.
All Corrupted Creatures have a chance, based on creature strength, to drop a Corrupt Heart after killed. This means the stronger the creature, the more likely it will drop a Corrupt Heart.
The Enforcer does 4x or 400% more damage than it usually does to any and all corrupted creatures, giving it a significant advantage to kill corrupted and help a survivor travel the Wastelands more safely.
All Corrupted Creatures take significantly less damage from Turrets.

There are 16 Corrupted Creatures (including variants).
Dossier
This section is intended to be an exact copy of what the survivor Helena Walker, the author of the dossiers, has written. There may be some discrepancies between this text and the in-game creature.
- Wild
Even at its most deadly, there's nothing as beautiful as nature. Yet by definition, that beauty only exists if nature is left to run its course, free from interference or invasion. Sadly, that's not what happened here. These poor creatures have been infected and twisted by an outside force. I've seen how Element can alter the evolutionary trajectory of a species in small, indirect doses, but this goes far beyond that. The Element that grows within these animals has taken hold of their minds and driven them mad. They move as one, ravaging everything in their path, and often push themselves beyond their physical limits. We've found they have a sixth sense for Element, and on occasion have used that to our advantage. Otherwise, they are an unfeeling, ravenous horde.
- Domesticated
At my insistence, we've tried on several occasions to remove the corruption from these hapless beasts, but to no avail. Every time we have to fend them off, I feel a pang of guilt in my heart, but putting them down is the kindest thing we can do for them.

322.9 | Can no longer carry/base Corrupted Dinos. |
324.16 | Corrupted Dinos no longer damage player structures on PvE. |
Note
- Corrupted creatures will attack all non-Corrupted
Creatures encountered, even when there is disproportionate strength level between them.
- It is noteworthy that all Corrupted Creatures can be mate boosted by their own species, potentially making them even more deadly.
- Because of their hive nature, attacking a corrupted creature will result in survivors and their tames being swarmed by nearby corrupted creatures within a certain radius.
- In Orbital Supply Drops defense, when attacking corrupted that are damaging the drop, several corrupted will branch off and attack you while a few continue damaging the drop.
- In Orbital Supply Drop defenses, several Corrupted creatures seem to "learn" how to bypass certain structures such as the shield for the Tek forcefield or metal spike walls. For example, when a single Corrupted Wyvern and or Corrupted Rock Drake manages to find a way to enter the Tek forcefield a player has put up in replacement for the original forcefield, the rest of the Corrupted Wyverns in later rounds seem to replicate its method to enter and damage the drop.
- Several Corrupted Creatures possess different behaviors and other traits from their standard counterparts:
- The
Corrupted Reaper King does not possess natural resistance or rapid health regen, but it does possess a much higher health pool to compensate for these factors. They are also not affected by
Charge Light, despite visually displaying the debuff effect when exposed. Upon death, its corpse disappears shortly afterwards.
- The
Corrupted Giganotosaurus does not inflict a bleed when biting and has a reduced health pool.
- The
Corrupted Spino can switch into bipedal stance, but will not use its claw swipe; it will only bite.
- When the
Corrupted Rock Drake uses its cloaking ability, the outline of its non-existent feathers is present.
- The
Corrupted Stegosaurus has its hardened plate active at all times which, paired with
Mate Boost, makes them exceedingly more dangerous than any other Corrupted Creature on this list.
- The
Corrupted Dimorphodon only appears during
Orbital Supply Drop defense and is not ordinarily found in the Wasteland.
- Otherwise, Corrupted Creatures share their abilities and behaviors with their regular variants, aside from minor cosmetic differences (e.g., the
Corrupted Chalicotherium launches
Element boulders rather then mud boulders).
- The
- A Corrupted variant of the
Deathworm spawned on Extinction in its initial release (285.104) but was quietly removed from the game shortly after. While it remains in the game files of
ARK: Survival Evolved, it does not exist at all in
ARK: Survival Ascended, even in the game files.
- For some reason, Corrupted Creatures give off a strange, eerie sound that can be heard when close. The sound however disappears after the player travels enough of distance away and comes back. Also, corrupted corpses do not emit the sound.
- A strange thing about the corrupted creatures is that Element can corrupt anything but it focuses on a fixed number of creatures. All those creatures it corrupts are known and/or popular in contemporary society and all of them are tames that players would typically tame.
- This behavior is further justified in lore where The One Who Waits/Homo Deus Helena described Element turning any creature that was useful for its cause into its shadows and anything that was useless to it were devoured and destroyed.

- Some Corrupted Creatures do not show any signs of blood when injured, some display blood effects normally, and some will only show blood upon death. Specifically, the
Corrupted Dimorphodon,
Corrupted Giganotosaurus, and
Corrupted Pteranodon) will, upon death, have all of their body that is not corrupted totally and completely covered in red blood.
- Projectiles that are shot from corrupted creatures, which are likely made of a mixture of element and flesh, will not look the same as their creature counterpart. For example, the
Corrupted Chalicotherium's throw attack throws a purple element glob as opposed to poop and the
Corrupted Arthropluera will spit out liquid purple element as opposed to green colored, acidic blood.
- While the shadow on the Dossier image appears what looked like a corrupted
Brontosaurus, there is no such thing as Corrupted Brontosaurus that exists in-game.
- Beware when going into areas like the Wasteland or any other area that usually contains Corrupted Creatures, they can and will literally materialize out of thin air and attack.
- Corrupted creatures act very similar to zombies in that they are infected and will mindlessly attack anything near them.
- Like zombies, they are all badly malformed. Some features include lack of eyes (some lack eyes, others have purples ones), lack of feathers, organs glowing purple.
- Corrupted Creatures can be picked up and dropped onto bases for easy raiding. Turrets that are not set to attack wild creatures will ignore them as a Corrupted Dino can devastate even Tek bases. This give early game players with tames as early as an argentavis or pteranodon the ability to raid highly advanced bases, while also being virtually unseen by the tribe log.
- The corrupted creatures don't seem to have a method of expelling Element from their bodies and, as a result, Element builds up in their body until it corrupts them.
- Creatures like the
Managarmr,
Velonasaur,
Snow Owl,
Gasbags, and
Gacha have Element in their bodies, but it doesn't corrupt them. Their respective methods of constantly expelling Element could explain why this is the case.
- Creatures like the
- The Corrupted Dimorph does not show its Element body parts. This can be fixed by going out of stasis range and returning.
- (BUG) The Corrupted Arthropleura appears to behave neutrally in Ark survival ascended, being paradoxical due to its normal being varaint being hostile on top of being corrupted.
- In
ARK: Survival Ascended, the models of Corrupted Creatures were adjusted to have a more partial but uniform level of corruption across variants, as well as giving their eyes a purple glow. No new Corrupted Creatures were added in
ARK: Survival Ascended.
