Overview

Cooked Meat Jerky is a food item in ARK: Survival Evolved. It is a very durable and long lasting source of food.

Cooked Meat Jerky can be prepared by putting  Cooked Meat,  Oil and  Sparkpowder in the  Preserving Bin. It takes 36 Mins to turn the meat into jerky.

Note that the Preserving Bin requires 1 Sparkpowder to run for 30 minutes and so at least 2 additional Sparkpowder must be available for the 36 minute production time. Factoring this and spoilage timers, the best ratio of materials to make optimum use of the Preserving Bin is one stack of Sparkpowder (100) for every stack of Cooked Meat (30), which will produce jerky at a rate of 24 pieces every 14 hours. As Preserving Bins can produce both Cooked Meat Jerky and Prime Meat Jerky concurrently, two preserving bins both producing half of each would be more time efficient than having dedicated bins.

Note According to the Preserving Bin information the above is not sufficient. "The formula to find how much  Sparkpowder would be needed to produce X jerky, including both the recipe requirement and to keep the appliance powered for the duration, is X × 4.2 for a single type, or ×3.6 for both types concurrently, rounded up. For example, 20 meat would need 84 sparkpowder; while 20 prime and 20 regular would require 144 sparkpowder. This does not take into account spoilage, so the exact yield will be off. Factoring stack and inventory limits, the most convenient ratio is 1:1 for single-type production (stacks of meat to stacks of sparkpowder) or 2:2:3 for multi-type (raw to prime to spark)."

Usage

Upon consumption, Cooked Meat Jerky restores 20.0 food points, just like Cooked Meat. However, it is very durable and can be stored for a long time without spoiling. If stored in the Preserving Bin, it lasts 20 days.

It can be used to tame wild Carnivores, but it is not advised to do so because it is expensive to make, and grants no taming benefits over other types of meat.

It is also used as an ingredient for making the following  Kibbles:

Spoil times

ContainerSpoiling Time
 Player Inventory 2d
 Tamed Dino 8d
 Preserving Bin 20d
 Smokehouse (Primitive Plus) 30d
 Refrigerator 200d

For more information, see Spoilage.

Notes/Trivia

  • On Primitive Plus you can create jerky with  Organic Oil (Primitive Plus) as well as with  Crude Oil. Both types will not stack together. For modifying jerky in server settings it is important to know that the jerky created with organic oil has its own ItemClassString: PrimalItemConsumable_CookedMeat_Jerky_CustomOil_C
  • Jerky in real life is made with raw meat, as opposed to cooked meat like in the game. Oil is also not used in making it in real life.
  • May be found in White Beacon
