The Carcharodontosaurus is a creature in  ARK: Survival Evolved. This predator specializes in rampage driven by thirst for blood.

Basic Info

Dossier

This section is intended to be an exact copy of what the survivor Helena Walker, the author of the dossiers, has written. There may be some discrepancies between this text and the in-game creature.

Wild

I feel lucky to have crossed paths with Carcharodontosaurus medicupestis and lived to tell the tale. Though I’m not sure if this predator grows bigger than a Giganotosaurus, I hope never to find out. Just one of these bruisers held its own against an army of us, and that encounter cost us dearly.

Carcharodontosaurus can sweep aside attackers with its tail, but it’s the other end you’ll really want to avoid. It has teeth like steak knives, set in jaws strong enough to shred most prey. Even a near-miss will carve you up, but good.

Like its namesake the great white shark, Carcharodontosaurus gets more dangerous once it tastes blood. Each kill seems to give these monsters a rush and drive it into a berserker frenzy.

Domesticated

Anyone that manages to tame a Carcharodontosaurus will gain a new way to rally their tribe for battle. There’s something about this monster’s roar that drives others to fight — a war cry for Hell’s own army.

The more tactical tribes will let their Carcharodontosaurus tear through the mid-sized creatures in their enemy’s ranks, thereby building up its bloodrage to take on the largest threats. Talk about shock and awe!

Behavior

The Carcharodontosaurus will attack wild creatures and players on sight.

The Carcharodontosaurus's information is currently unknown, because it was recently released.

  • 1These are the base speeds of the tamed creature at 100% Movement Speed, i.e. without a possible taming bonus.
  • 2These are the speeds of the creature once tamed including a possible taming bonus and no imprinting bonus.
  • For a comparison of the speeds of all creatures, see Base Creature Speeds.

Wild Stats Level-up

Type in values of a wild creature to see on which stats it's emphasized. Green values on a high-level creature are very good for breeding. If you have already tamed your creature you can try to recover the breeding stats with an external tool.[1]

Carcharodontosaurus

The stat-calculator does not work in the mobile-view, see here for alternatives: Apps

Note that after the creature is tamed it gets bonuses on some stats depending on the taming effectiveness. This makes it hard to retrieve the levels on a tamed creature, so this tool is only for wild ones, but gives a first impression, how well the stats are distributed.

Combat

This section describes how to fight against the Carcharodontosaurus.

General

The Carcharodontosaurus is a ferocious fighter comparable to the likes of the Giganotosaurus itself and caution is necessary when taking on one of these beasts.

Strategy

Weaponry

Dangers

The Carcharodontosaurus is a powerful creature, with each creature it kills it grows stronger, it also has a powerful tail capable of knocking back opponents and can power up allies with its roar.

Just like the Giganotosaurus the Carcharodontosaurus can enter an enraged state after its eaten corpses indicated by its glowing eyes and the blood dripping from its mouth, it's also likely that you will encounter it in this state in the wild due to its aggresive nature.

The Carcharodontosaurus is also incredibly fast for its size making outrunning it not a option on slower mounts, it's best to avoid alerting it at all costs if your not prepared to fight

Weakness

Taming

The Carcharodontosaurus can only be tamed non-violently rather than through the knockout methods. To be able to tame such magnificently strong creature, one must show trust that it is not a food.

Because of its aggressive state, you need to trap the creature to be able to prevent it from running around and attack anything else. Once trapped, kill nearby creatures (they must be killed by you; any other methods will not raise its trust) and drag it close to it. Release the carcass near it and allow it to sniff and take a bite. Upon consumption, a blue HUD bar will appear near it, signalling how much trust it sees you as. Continue to bring carcasses until the HUD is fully filled, and then remove a trap from where its trapped at and mount on it.

During this state, how long it will let you ride on it depends on how long "Friend Buff" is active from Carchardontosaurus; once it runs out, the creature can no longer be ridden. Kill as many creature as you can with it during this time; kills will accumulate the actual taming progress based on the type and level of creatures, and getting hurt will reduce the effectiveness. If you find yourself unable to tame it before the buff runs out, bring it back to the trap and encase it again and bring it more corpses once the taming runs out.

Be wary that it will still try to attack you even with a full Blue HUD until it is tamed.

World Boss Counter

While likely too big to fit into traditional Arenas it will be a powerful substitute to the Yutyrannus in maps like Fjordur and Extinction since it has a Battle Cry ability similar to the Yutyrannus, it's far stronger and in the case of Fjordur each of the the World Boss Minions it kills will make it stronger.

Notes/Trivia

For information pertaining specifically to the real-world Carcharodontosaurus, see the relevant Wikipedia article.

  • The Carcharodontosaurus was in both the Lost Island and Fjordur creature votes and came in second both times.
  • The Carcharodontosaurus and Giganotosaurus are related with both being in the Carcharodontosauridae family.
  • The Carcharodontosaurus will be the last creature added into ARK: Survival Evolved.[2]
  • Carcharodontosaurus taming steps and behavior falls similar to several creatures:
    • The requirement to feed it carcasses is similar to  Fjordhawk.
    • The ability to temporarily mount it is similar (but not too much) to  Equus,  Voidwyrm and  Andrewsarchus.
    • The requiement to tame it via combat and gaining trust is similar (but not too much) to  Amargasaurus.
    • Its tail swing ability is similar to  Reaper King, albeit faster at a smaller range.
