The Chainsaw is one of the Tools in ARK: Survival Evolved, being introduced in the Scorched Earth expansion pack. It is unlocked at Level 55 for 21 Engram Points.

Powered by  Gasoline, the Chainsaw is one of the best methods for harvesting resources like  Wood,  Hide, and  Chitin/ Keratin in mass quantities. It is also very effective at harvesting  Oil,  Scrap Metal,  Electronics, and  Element Dust from slain  Enforcers,  Defense Units, and Tek creatures. Additionally, the Chainsaw also makes for a good melee weapon thanks to its fast hit rate.

The Chainsaw has 80 Durability.

Notes

• Higher quality Chainsaws are expensive to repair. You can somewhat offset the  Polymer costs by using  Organic Polymer, but make sure to harvest enough with your Chainsaw before it breaks!
•  Melee Damage affects the DPS of the Chainsaw.
• The Chainsaw is more efficient at destroying Stone Structures than other metal tools.
• The Chainsaw cannot be used underwater. Because of this, farming  Eurypterids can prove difficult due to them spawning at the bottom of the ocean. In maps like Genesis: Part 2, this proves possible due to Eurypterids spawning in much shallower waters, allowing them to move onto land for harvesting.

Trivia

• The Engram for the Chainsaw requiring the Engram for the  Shotgun is a possible reference to the Evil Dead movies, in which the protagonist Ash uses a double-barrel shotgun and a chainsaw attached to his right arm in place of his hand.
