Like the Dire Bear and Gigantopithecus, the Chalicotherium becomes hostile when approached. It throws balls of feces that poison the player, slow movement speed, and apply a brown effect around the edges of the screen. You can still dodge the balls, but they are pretty rapid fire. The creature seems to bear some rudimentary intelligence, not unlike an otter, as troops of them can be seen hurling snowballs at each other like some sort of war game - something that also proves handy against local predators like Hyaenodon, Direwolves and even Daeodons. While most commonly found in cold, snowy regions, they are by far the most adaptable of the Arks’ large mammals, and can also handle warmer conditions; occasionally being found in jungles, grasslands, even on beaches and wastelands across all maps except for Scorched Earth, Aberration, and PG arks.
外観
Perhaps the oddest mammal on the island, the Chalicotherium is best described as a hybrid between a horse, a gorilla, a bear, as well as a zebra but does look akin to Ground Sloths too. Like a gorilla it walks on its knuckles, but whereas apes have hands, the Chalicotherium wields wicked claws. These claws are used for pulling leafy branches towards its mouth, but are deadly in combat. The skull form, tail and pattering lean more towards that of an equine species, while the body is nearly identical in shape to giant ground sloths such as Megatherium.
The Chalicotherium is unable to be tamed through the standard tranquilize-and-feed methods, and must be tamed non-violently.
To feed it, place Beer Jar on the last slot of your hotbar, then when approached press use (default E) to feed it. You cannot feed them all the food required for taming at one time, you must wait every couple of minutes until it is hungry again to feed it more until its taming meter is filled. For the least amount of difficulty, wear Ghillie Armor and sneak up carefully behind it. Also, if you have it in a safe area, you can feed the first beer and then do something else for a while to give it time to accrue some hunger.
The Chalicotherium also accepts Stimberries but the taming progress is incredibly slow and therefore this is not advised.
Once tamed the Chalicotherium's diet is Berries, like other herbivores.
戦闘
This section describes how to fight against the Chalicotherium.
全般
戦略
The Chalicotherium is a powerful creature, but by hammering it quickly with a Woolly Rhino or Dimorphodon, it can be taken down before it has a chance to attack.
武器
Because of its hard-hitting swipe attacks, melee weapons are not advised. Long range weapons are most effective here, though caution of player placement is recommended. It's rock/dirt throw can knock a player off most rocks, so a tall ledge and use of a Scope Attachment is a more effective strategy here. Tanking or fast-flying mounts are even more effective with the Chalicotherium.
危険
It will charge at the player, throwing dirt, rocks or even fecal matter if it is unable to catch up. This projectile slightly impairs your vision, slows you down, and poisons you, regardless of the direction of impact.
弱点
Once tamed, the Chalicotherium’s range attack is a rock throw, this attack can’t cover his right side efficiently. A fast mount with a close turning circle is a good choice to attack him from his right flank.
実用性
The Chalicotherium can be used as a mobile Catapult Turret and can throw rocks at enemies. You do not need to have ammunition, because it grabs them from the ground.
役割
Siege Weapon: Chalicotherium is the only tamable creature aside from the Rock Elemental and Ferox that can lob boulders that deal heavy damage to structures and animals. Unlike the elemental however, the Chalicotherium has the advantage of being able to climb onto platform saddle mounts to use them as a siege tower; and its smaller size with higher speed allows it to maneuver or re-position quicker. While its accurate range is shorter than that of the Catapult Turret, it doesn't need ammunition to reload. Level up stamina for more continuous rock throws and melee damage for more powerful boulder tosses. Health is also recommended to survive return fire from turrets or defender firearms.
Base Defense: Place in turret mode around your base but be sure to feed them as most tames don't eat from feeding troughs while in turret mode.
Gatherer: The Chalicotherium's left click swing goes in a wide arc and has a rapid attack speed, allowing it to gather berries and thatch rapidly. It can also gather wood, but far less effectively. Also the Chalicotherium has a C attack, which can be used while sprinting to collect berries while still on the run. Level up carry weight, stamina, and speed.
All-Purpose Mount: The Chalicotherium is a very versatile mount. It can sprint relatively fast for a herbivore. With its high health, damage, and massive knockback on its attacks it can go toe to toe with most predators, even large ones like T-Rex. It can easily amass large amounts of Berries for yourself and for taming others. Level Speed, Health, and Melee Damage.
Note! You can also use weapons while riding the Chalicotherium. When Chalicotherium is too slow to pursue other players, pull out your assault rifle and shoot em down!
The Chalicotherium was first revealed by Drake on July 23, 2015 [2]
On Dododex, the phrase “hold my beer” originated from this creature due to its unusual taming mechanic.
The dossier was revealed by Jat on January 25, 2016 [3]
Despite looking like a cross between a horse and a gorilla, Chalicotherium is a close relative of horses and rhinoceroses.
Chalicotherium means "Pebble Beast" in Greek, referring to its oddly shaped teeth, which fall out when they reach adulthood.
Obsidioequus means "Siege Horse" in Latin, referring to its relation to horses and its catapult-like capabilities.
Chalicotherium can be knocked out, but like other non-violent tames the Chalicotherium can not be tamed when it is knocked out.
Chalicotheriums were probably social animals that lived in herds, Ark's Chalicotherium can usually be seen in singles, pairs and very ocasionally, in groups of 3.
Oddly, even though they are tamed with Beer, once tamed they will not consume it, even when force fed.
Interestingly as of 13 May 2021, Chalicotherium is unable to damage stone structures with their boulder attack on mobile. This was tested on a PVX server within the pvp zone, where it unable to damage enemy stone foundations and stone dinosaur gateways.
