Ingredients

The Bee Hive is a structure used to produce  Giant Bee Honey. It also produces  Beeswax (Primitive Plus) in the Primitive Plus DLC.

Construction

A Bee Hive can be obtained by taming a  Giant Queen Bee. Once tamed, you can pick up the Queen by interacting with it and turn it into a Bee Hive in your inventory. You can then place the Bee Hive on the ground. By demolishing a placed hive, it will turn back into it's Queen creature form.

On Primitive Plus DLC the Queen can be tamed and the Bee Hive can be placed but currently (since at least 2019) cannot be accessed.

Usage

The Bee Hive can generate  Giant Bee Honey over time. It needs 1  Rare Flower per hour to stay healthy. Even though you cannot place Honey in it, the produced ones' spoilage time is increased by a 1000 times.

Accessing the Bee Hive without any gear will apply the  BEES! effect for 10 seconds, which does initial damage of 10% of  Health, followed by 15 damage every 2 seconds as weel as reducing  Movement Speed by 1/3. Some of the effects can be avoided with full sets of  Ghillie Armor,  Tek Armor or  Hazard Suit Armor: you only get the initial damage with the  Ghillie Armor and  Tek Armor, while the  Hazard Suit Armor is damaged instead. The effect can be washed away by diving into deep water.

The Bee Hive can only be placed on ground,  Rafts,  Platforms and  Platform Saddles.

Destroying

Before the  Giant Queen Bee can be tamed, the Bee Hive first needs to be destroyed. It has 5,000  Health and when attacked, releases drones. The drones can be lethal, even when wearing full armor. They don't seem to hit players if they go prone.

The player can, for example, use a  Dimorphodon and order it to attack the Hive, the drones will have a hard time hitting the Dimorphodon. The player can also use a ranged weapon like the  Crossbow. A melee weapon is not recommended because the Bee Hives are usually located on walls (or massive Redwood trees) the player cannot reach.

A tamed  Arthropluera's spit can be used to break the hive from a long distance, requiring decent aim but protecting the player from bee aggro and conserving resources. A  Spyglass can be used to check the hive's  Health and confirm hits.

Using most mounts is usually not recommended as the drones will dismount the player. However, a good mount for destroying it is a  Pteranodon, using the spin attack you can damage the hive and still fly away without being attacked, other flying mounts can be used as well. It is recommended to keep distance from the Hive, because the drones will swarm out when the player comes too close and will attack. If the player has a certain distance from the Bee Hive, the drones won't appear and will not attack the player. A flying tame that the player can carry on their shoulder is also recommended, because they will take out the drones attacking the player if the tame is set on any other Aggression Level than Passive. The  Dire Bear has  Bee Protection, allowing the player to avoid the effects entirely, however it can be tedious to make it reach the Hive location.

You can get more tips on taming a Queen in the creature's Taming Strategy section.

Notes

  • If the player walks away from the Hive (out of render distance), it will regenerate its health, therefore losing all progress.
  • Bee Hives cannot normally be used in the CrossARK Transfers and thus changed maps, you will need to Demolish the Hive and  Cryopod the resulting  Giant Queen Bee instead.
  • The Queen "stored" in the Hive retains all the information of the originally tamed creature.
  • Because Queens can't be un-cryopodded on Aberration and Hives can't be transferred, you will need to tame one on the map: demolishing the Hive works normally.
  • The  BEES! effect from tribe Hives is not removed or prevented by  Wyvern Milk,  Lesser Antidote, the  Dire Bear's  Bee Protection, nor sleeping in a  Tek Sleeping Pod.
  • Wild Bee Hive (without bees) can be spawned by using command: cheat summon beehive_c
  • You can check if there are Bee Hives on the map with command: cheat getallstate BeeHive_C
  • To destroy all Bee Hives on the map (wild and players owned!) use command: cheat DestroyAll BeeHive_C 1
