Artifacts

From ARK Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

Artifacts are unique progression items that are typically located within caves around the ARKs, but occasionally are located in other remote or unique locations, such as deep oceans and Wyvern lairs. In some caves, such as The Island's, Artifacts create pulsing distortion effects across the walls, alerting survivors that one is nearby. Once collected, Artifacts are used to fight the Bosses. Often in combination with other Tribute items, they serve as a means to open a teleport to a boss' arena, or in the case of Extinction, summon them into the world. They can also be used decoratively on an  Artifact Pedestal, providing unique decor, trophies to display, and a variety of different colours of lighting.

Artifacts

There is a total of 21 Artifacts in the game, with different amounts and types appearing on each map. 10 of the Artifacts are used by The Island, The Center, Ragnarok, and Valguero. The Center and Ragnarok both have one additional Artifact (for a total of 11). Scorched Earth, Aberration, and Extinction each have 3 Artifacts, of which each set was introduced uniquely to each map. Extinction's artifacts are currently the ones to remain unique to the map they were added with, however, with those introduced alongside Scorched Earth and Aberration later being used by non-canon maps. Crystal Isles also possesses an Artifact not found on any other map, which was present in game files previously but was not used. It has a total of 18 Artifacts, with all except for Extinction's able to be found upon the map. Artifacts can be freely transferred between maps, with the exception of Artifact of the Lost, which will disappear from the survivor's inventory if transferred on a cluster. If placed in a Singleplayer, Non-Dedicated or un-clustered Obelisk, and a map other than Crystal Isles is loaded by the player, it will become an invisible 'ghost item' that cannot be removed and will permanently make one of the item slots unusable.

    Notes

    • On most maps, multiple different Artifacts are required to initiate a fight with each boss (with the exception of the Overseer, which does not have any direct requirement, but needs the trophies of bosses that have been defeated and required Artifacts to do so). However, Extinction's Titans do not require multiple Artifacts, instead (alongside other tribute requirements) only needing one. Each can be found in the same cave that the terminal to summon the respective Titan resides in.
    • Version V254.0 made a change so that only humans could carry Artifacts. However, the  Otter (introduced later, in v267.0), can also hold Artifacts, and unlike humans, they can hold multiple of the same one.
    • In Singleplayer, Artifacts are set to respawn after 30 minutes (since v260.0). It's possible that they will not be at the expected location when teleporting with the setplayerpos command to its coordinates, or if the survivor conquered the cave too fast. It might appear after waiting for a while in that area.
    • Rarely, the Artifact container may not disappear after it has been looted, and will block a new Artifact from spawning. A server restart will resolve the issue, or alternatively, the console command cheat destroymytarget can be used on the empty container to remove it.

    Changelog

    Patch  ASE Changes
324.16 Made some tweaks to the Artifact system in single-player to resolve some scenarios where some artifacts (such as Skylord) would spawn/respawn unreliably.
