The Brachyura is a new creature added in Fixed Extinction.

Basic info

Behavior

Brachyura spawns inside the Desert Dome on Extinction. They usually come in groups of 3 with at least one of them being an adult. Adult Brachyuras attack enemies on sight, while their young wander aimlessly. When attacked, young Brachyuras will attempt to run away.

Appearance

Brachyura uses Atlas' Giant Crab model, with its characteristic shell shape and three-clawed left pincer. What sets these two apart, however, are blue element veins present on Brachyura's cephalothorax.

Color Scheme and Regions

The Brachyura's range of its natural color scheme is unknown at this time, however its color regions are available. For demonstration, the regions below are colored red over an albino Brachyura.

This information can be used to alter the Brachyura's regions by entering cheat SetTargetDinoColor <ColorRegion> <ColorID> in the cheat console. For instance, cheat SetTargetDinoColor 1 6 would color the Brachyura's "" magenta.

Combat

General

Brachyura has 3 different attacks - a slam that works similarly to Karkinos', that can use left, right or both pincers, a slow but powerful claw swipe and low-range multi-hitting spin attack, the two latter dealing deinonychus bleed with each successful hit. It can also activate its healing ability, which works similarly to {ItemLink|Argentavis}}' and do it passively while in water.

Tamed Brachyuras can be equipped with  Electrical Shellpiece (Mod:Fixed Extinction) to unlock a new AOE attack, that slows down your creatures.

Strategy

The key to defeat this crab is to keep the distance. Brachyuras have a hard time while dealing with small creatures like  Human, often missing its first attack and closing in a bit more before attempting to strike again. Additionally, it deals recoil damage not unlike  Kentrosaurus and  Arthropluera, making melee fighting pointless.

Due to its regenerative abilities, it's best to take it down as fast as possible.

Creatures with ranged attacks like  Managarmr and  Velonasaur can make quick work of this annoying crab, just stand above it on a cliff and shoot until it's dead.

Another strategy would be to use File:Mod Fixed Extinction Hive Queen.png Hive Queen (Mod:Fixed Extinction) added by the mod. Spawn minions and command them to attack Brachyura before it gets a chance to attack. This strategy, however, is prone to failure, as when Brachyura gets the first strike or aggroes on a minion and uses claw swipe, the swarm drones will most probably die before having opportunity to stun the crab.

You can try tanking Brachy's damage with high health tames, like  Rex.

Thylacoleo and File:Mod Fixed Extinction Nileodon.png Nileodon (Mod:Fixed Extinction) can safely bleed out the creature, without receiving too much damage.

Weaponry

Even a Player with  Bow and loads of arrows and time to spare can beat Brachyura.

Dangers

Deinonychus' bleed present in the spin attack and claw swipe, along with recoil damage make fighting this creature a task that requires resources and strategy before having access to more powerful tames.

Do not attempt to fight Brachyura in water, as it will passively activate its healing ability.

Weakness

As mentioned before, Brachyura will miss its first attack pretty often when it comes to small fries, its speed also matches Karkinos', making it easy to run away and get distance if needed.

Taming

Adult Brachyuras can't be tamed. Player needs to passively tame their young, by giving them meat or  Exceptional Kibble. Kill or kite away any nearby adults and start feeding the offsprings.

As of writing this page, young Brachyuras can be tamed via knock-out. They eat the same food as when tamed passively.

After domesticating one of these desert crabs, it will need to grow to adulthood, before you could ride it. This is a bug and will be patched soon.

Preferred Food

These items can be used to tame a Brachyura:

Utility

Abilities

  • Left - Left claw slam, deals base damage equal to the first value in [Melee Damage] cell.
  • Left (hold) - Claw Swipe, causes  Deinonychus' bleed, deals base damage equal to the second value in [Melee Damage] cell.
  • Right - Right claw slam, deals base damage equal to the first value in [Melee Damage] cell.
  • Right (hold) - Spin attack, causes  Deinonychus' bleed, deals 30 base damage for Adult, wild Brachyura and 50 for tamed.
  • Left and Right - Both claw slam, deals base damage equal to the second value in [Melee Damage] tab.
  • C - Activates healing buff for 10 seconds, about 40 seconds cooldown.
  • X - Summons purple lightnings around Brachyura, deals 100 base damage and applies Electrocuted debuff for 3 seconds, about 15 seconds cooldown. (Needs  Electrical Shellpiece (Mod:Fixed Extinction) to work)

Brachyura can stay submerged in water infinitely, just like Karkinos.

Roles

  • OSD/Raid Support: Brachyuras can tank melee damage and use their healing ability to buff your dinos in raids or defending OSDs and Element Veins on Extinction.
  • Genesis alpha brute slayer: One of the viable strategies to defeat alpha brute creatures on Genesis part 1 and 2 is to bring a massive  Kentrosaurus herd and allow the brute to kill itself with deflected damage. Brachyura sports similar stats and ability, as well as regeneration ability and attacks that cause target to bleed. Brachyuras can prove especially useful in the Bog due to the huge amounts of water this biome has.
  • Crab meat farm: Brachyura drops mod's own resource - File:Mod Fixed Extinction Crab Meat.png Crab Meat (Mod:Fixed Extinction), which is a replacement for, otherwise unobtainable on this map,  Raw Prime Fish Meat as well as an ingredient for mod's File:Mod Fixed Extinction Crab Cakes.png Crab Cakes (Mod:Fixed Extinction)
  • Small mobile base :  Brachyura Platform Saddle (Mod:Fixed Extinction) can be used to make Brachyura into portable forge, smithy, fabricator and chemistry bench all at once! Level  Weight to avoid encumbrance.
  • Siege mount: In addition to Brachyura's many abilities, which can already prove very useful in combat, it's platform saddle can host turrets to further aid in raiding enemy bases. Level up  Health and  Weight.

Notes/Trivia

  • Brachyuras seem to gain infinite healing buff until server restart or map exit on single player, under some unspecified circumstances.
