Dune Runner is a new mini-boss added in Fixed Extinction.

Basic info

Behavior

Dune Runner dwells in the confines of Desert Dome, more often closer to the obelisk and Dome's center. It's neutral and won't cause any harm to the player unless provoked. While in combat, Runner's attacks will be amplified by its movement speed.

Appearance

The Dune Runner uses Atlas' Rhino model. It has scaly-like armor on its head, back and sides. It's horn has characteristic shape and a pattern that glows in the dark. It is about as big as a  Rex.

Color Scheme and Regions

The Dune Runner's range of its natural color scheme is unknown at this time, however its color regions are available. For demonstration, the regions below are colored red over an albino Dune Runner.

This information can be used to alter the Dune Runner's regions by entering cheat SetTargetDinoColor <ColorRegion> <ColorID> in the cheat console. For instance, cheat SetTargetDinoColor 1 6 would color the Dune Runner's "" magenta.

Abilities

  • It can attack with its horn for 60 base damage.
  • It has an alternative attack, where it shakes off sand and and deals 20 base damage to nearby targets. This attack applies  Stegosaurus' Slowed! debuff for 10 seconds.
  • Damage of both its normal attacks scales with movement speed like  Woolly Rhino's. (doesn't seem to work with wild ones)
  • Desert Runner can trample its targets for constant 140 base damage.

Combat

General

Dune Runner is probably the easiest of the three "dome" minibosses (other two being File:Mod Fixed Extinction Glacial Drake.png Glacial Drake (Mod:Fixed Extinction) and File:Mod Fixed Extinction Naga.png Naga (Mod:Fixed Extinction)). It only has attacks that deal damage and sometimes slows the player down. Its health pool is average and damage output the lowest of the three.

Strategy

The cheapest way to deal with Dune Runner is to use a  Net Projectile and beat it while its immobilized.

Health draining tames likes of  Thylacoleo,  Allosaurus or File:Mod Fixed Extinction Nileodon.png Nileodon (Mod:Fixed Extinction) can dispatch this rhino the quickest.

A group of mid to late game tames likes of  Mammoth,  Direbear,  Rex or  Spino should be sufficient to deal with this boss.

Newly added  Rhyniognatha can be used to glue the miniboss in resin even for only a few seconds.

Weaponry

Aside from mentioned net projectiles, good quality firearms can be brought, as File:Mod Fixed Extinction Brachyura.png Brachyura (Mod:Fixed Extinction) can aggro on the player or its tames and possibly drain dino's health with its recoil damage.

Dangers

The central zones inhabited by Dune Runner are also home to File:Mod Fixed Extinction Brachyura.png Brachyura (Mod:Fixed Extinction) and  E-Thorny Dragon (Mod:Fixed Extinction), which can do much more potential damage than the Rhino. Watch out for your surroundings.

Weakness

Rhino for some reason deals much less damage than its base damage is. This makes even level 150 with default damage values unable to deal over 100 damage with single attack.

Spotlight

Notes/Trivia

  • Dune Runner is the only dome miniboss that isn't aggressive and doesn't have special immunities like E-creatures sharing habitat with it.
