NU Jug Bugs have a new explosive attack, varying with the Jug Bug type. They can be picked up and carried around, and generate resources when tamed just as they do when wild.

Appearance

They have new custom coloursets that differ between each Jug Bug type. Water and Oil Jug Bugs are blue and green, with yellow bellies, and some darker and more purple hues on the Oil variants. Water bugs have green eyes, and oil have purple. Element Jug Bugs have bright blue eyes, and spawn in primarily purples and blues, but can also have a black or, rarely, white body. The iridescent, red-eyed X-Jug Bugs have a vibrant range of hues, dominantly bold oranges and bright greens, with a splash of purples in some regions. Their wings and back have bold spots. R-Jug Bugs have a wavy, crackling pattern on their back and loops down their legs. Their eyes, spots down their sides, and jug glow a pale blue-white just like Mutagen, and the jug shimmers with the same effect. The glow becomes more intense the more Mutagel the Jug Bug is carrying. They can primarily be found in light purples and blues, with some teals and darker purples.

Color Scheme and Regions

This section displays the No Untameables/Jug Bug's natural colors and regions. For demonstration, the regions below are colored red over an albino No Untameables/Jug Bug. The colored squares shown underneath each region's description are the colors that the No Untameables/Jug Bug will randomly spawn with to provide an overall range of its natural color scheme. Hover your cursor over a color to display its name and ID.

This information can be used to alter the No Untameables/Jug Bug's regions by entering cheat SetTargetDinoColor <ColorRegion> <ColorID> in the cheat console. For instance, cheat SetTargetDinoColor 0 6 would color the No Untameables/Jug Bug's "body" magenta.

Behavior

With the exception of using an explosive attack before fleeing, behavior is identical to vanilla.

Abilities

When threatened, a Jug Bug can release all of its stored resources in an explosive burst, with effects depending on what kind of resource the Jug Bug was storing. Jug Bugs can only use their explosive attack while at maximum stored resources, and the attack reduces all stored resources to 0. Wild Jug Bugs will only explode if they have full resources and their attacker is in range - if aggroed from a distance or not at max resources they will flee as normal. The Jug Bug's explosive attacks scale with  Melee Damage.

Explosion Effects

Tame Jug Bugs will only use their explosion attacks when AI Special Attacks are enabled, and the effects will hurt allied survivors.

  • Water - Nearby players get the "soggy" debuff, which sharply decreases hypothermic insulation and prevents them from being set on fire, as well as decreasing maximum stamina while active. Dinos are unaffected. (Additionally, hyperthermic insulation is increased and water is slowly restored). Water Jug Bugs deal no actual damage when exploding.
  • Oil: Nearby players/dinos are set on fire briefly, dealing a small amount of damage. Has no effect on Fire Wyverns, Phoenixes or Magmasaurs.
  • Element: Nearby players/dinos are afflicted with radiation sickness. This is negated by the Hazard Suit and has no effect on dinos that are naturally immune to radiation.
  • Acid (X-Jug Bug): Nearby players/dinos get a debuff that slowly drains health and increases damage taken by 25%. Negated by the Hazard Suit.
  • Mutagel (R-Jug Bug): Tek suit abilities are temporarily disabled. The explosion does not affect spawning enemies in the wild when attacked, but does give said enemies a head start.

R-Jug Bug

Tamed R-Jug Bugs will not spawn Summoners under any circumstance. The feature is intended to balance out having a passive Mutagel farm, rather than to be used as an attack. Wild R-Jug Bugs cannot be picked up or teleported, and cannot spawn Summoners outside of the Rockwell's Proliferation biome (unless ini configured to allow such), to avoid exploits or abuse.

Just like the effects of picking up Mutagen in the biome, the wild R-Jug Bugs will spawn  Summoner to attack the player if harvested or attacked. Wild R-Jug Bugs are not aggressive and will ignore the player - only harvesting their resources or attacking them will cause the Summoners to show up. These Summoners are custom variants, and are leveled to the game's max level, plus the level of the bug. R-Jug Bugs will spawn a total of three Summoners, and if those are killed they will not spawn more. If any of the Summoners despawn, however, they are not counted towards the killed limit. So, when killing one of the three Summoners and having the other two despawn, if the bug is attacked again it will spawn two Summoners. All Summoners will despawn if the Jug Bug has not been interacted with (attacked, harvested, inventory accessed, etc.) for 10 minutes. Summoners spawned by these Jug Bugs will follow it around rather than following the normal Summoner paths in the biome (as a result, wandering is usually erratic in comparison to normal Summoners).

If the R-Jug Bug has Summoners already spawned and they are deaggroed (closed up and wandering), damaging/harvesting the bug or accessing its inventory (if unconscious) will immediately notify them and cause them to aggro onto the survivor. When spawning in Summoners to attack the player, this also will aggro nearby normal Summoners (just like picking up Mutagen). If you see more than 3 Summoners aggro when you hit a bug, this is probably why. Aggroing the Summoners after they have already spawned will not aggro other nearby Summoners.

If there are any Summoners remaining once the bug has been killed (but NOT tamed), they will aggro as normal, but will despawn after losing aggro as there is no longer a bug present. Normal wild Summoners are not affected by this, only those spawned by the now-dead bug.

Summoners spawned by R-Jug Bugs will be teleported back to the bug's location if they are lured elsewhere - maximum distance they will stray from the bug is dependent on whether or not they are aggroed onto something. Unlike picking up Mutagen, Macrophages are not spawned or aggroed (only Summoners).

Wild Stats Level-up

Type in values of a wild creature to see on which stats it's emphasized. Green values on a high-level creature are very good for breeding. If you have already tamed your creature you can try to recover the breeding stats with an external tool.[1]

No Untameables/Jug Bug

The stat-calculator does not work in the mobile-view, see here for alternatives: Apps

Note that after the creature is tamed it gets bonuses on some stats depending on the taming effectiveness. This makes it hard to retrieve the levels on a tamed creature, so this tool is only for wild ones, but gives a first impression, how well the stats are distributed.

Cloning

R-Jug Bugs cannot be cloned, though an ini may be added to override this at some point in the future

Combat

Since Jug Bugs will not use their explosion if the attacker is out of range, the safest way to kill them is to do so at a distance. No concern is needed if the Jug Bug is not full with resources, however. R-Jug Bugs are the exception- their  Summoner spawns are highly aggressive, as are the creatures summoned, so bring the same gear you would for fighting off Summoners if you're at risk of hitting an R-Jug Bug. Keep a gun such as the Longneck Rifle handy to shoot the Summoners.

Drops

Taming

All Jug Bugs are KO tames. Most prefer to eat Plant Species Y Seeds, with the exception of R-Jug Bugs, which have poorer effectiveness, preferring Plant Species R Seeds. X-Jug Bugs also have preferences for Plant Species X Seeds, and Aberrant and Element bugs also accept Plant Species Z Seeds.

Typically, they are relatively simple to KO- they have low torpor, but watch out for their low health. If the Jug Bug is full of resources, remain at a distance for your first shot. A Bola can also help keep them in place, since they are small targets and can be hard to hit. R-Jug Bugs are much more complicated, since they will spawn  Summoners when attacked. Read the section on Abilities for more information on their general Summoner mechanics. Wild R-Jug Bugs cannot be damaged by Summoners OR any creature spawned by a Summoner - you do not need to worry about random Summoner dino spawns killing the bug during the chaos. If any Summoners remain after the bug has been tamed, they will despawn immediately.

Utility

  • Resource Generation: Oil, Element, X and R Jug Bugs all produce useful resources passively. The seed of resource generation and max amount of resources they can carry scale with their stats, so level  Resource Regen and  Resource Capacity
  • Cooking Companion: Water Jug Bugs will refill Canteens, Water Jars and Waterskins placed in their inventory, based on how much water they are currently carrying. This makes them convenient when cooking large quantities of recipes before the Industrial Cooker has been unlocked.
  • Emergency Thermal Regulation: The explosion of the Water Jug Bug can be beneficial to survivors, particularly on maps such as Scorched Earth. There is an option in their radial wheel to 'Punch Bug', which will trigger their explosion. Due to the hyperthermic protection of the Soggy debuff, this can be a lifesaver during a Superheat or when suffering from Heatstroke. Preventing survivors being set on fire also means that quick thinking and a Jug Bug can save them from unexpected  Fire Wyvern attacks.

Notes/Trivia

  • When tamed, Jug Bugs can be picked up and carried around like Dodos, but cannot be placed on a survivor's shoulder
  • If used with the Additional Aberrant Dinos mod, the Element Jug Bugs from NU will spawn instead of AAD's as long as it is higher in the load order
