The No Untameables Ammonite is able to swim rather than being stuck to the ocean floors like the vanilla version. It can be ridden, and has camouflage abilities for survivors and tames.

Appearance

The normal version's appearance is identical to the vanilla version. For information, see the vanilla page. The X-Ammonite has a shimmering, iridescent shell. Bearing resemblance to the blue-ringed octopus, its tentacles display sets of brightly coloured, glowing rings, within larger, darker spots. Its shell can be found in greens and blues, while the tentacles are mostly found in brighter yellows and oranges.

Color Scheme and Regions

Behavior

Unlike the vanilla Ammonite, the are able to swim around. They can be configured via INI to not cause wild creatures to become aggressive towards a survivor or tame from simply being too close, but otherwise share their behaviour with the vanilla version.

Abilities

The Ammonite has the ability to prevent allied creatures and players from being targeted by wild aquatic dinos. This ability is enabled through the radial wheel and the range can be previewed. While active, allies in range will receive a buff that works similarly to Bug Repellant, but for aquatic dinos. As long as they aren't attacked or already targeting you, hostile aquatic creatures will ignore you. Only creatures (and players) that are actively in the water will receive the buff, and leaving the water will instantly deactivate it. Amphibious creatures such as the Spinosaurus and Karkinos are affected by this - they will ignore you while you're in the water with the buff, but if you leave water and it deactivates they'll go after you. In  ARK: Survival Ascended, this will work on all water dinos in any mods. For  ARK: Survival Evolved, modded dinos require special additions if they are not child classes of other aquatic creatures. Currently, everything relevant from Kraken's Better Dinos, ARK Additions, and Animals of Atlas is covered by the Ammonite's camo buff.

Combat

Combat is identical to the vanilla version. For information, see the vanilla page.

Drops

Taming

Ammonites are tamed non-violently, rather than through the usual methods. They are carnivorous, preferring Regular Kibble. Unless disabled with INI, getting close to an Ammonite to feed it will cause nearby water dinos to attack the survivor, so bring a strong tame to fight off any potential hostiles.

Utility

  • Resource Generation: Ammonites generate  Ammonite Bile passively when tamed
  • Aquatic Breeding Safety: The range of the camouflage allows a handful of Ammonites to cover a large area with their camo. This can be invaluable for setting up breeding areas for aquatic tames without fear of highly aggressive water creatures attacking, either killing breeders or leaving organised setups in disarray from tame dinos fighting back.
  • Cave Exploration: The Ammonite's incredibly slow speed makes it poorly suited to general aquatic travel, despite its camouflage, however speed is not a concern when caving. An Ammonite can greatly help when traversing enemy-dense caves seeking artifacts, if a survivor does not wish to fight their way through.
  • Cnidaria and Eurypterid Taming: Due to being able to hide survivors from aggression, they can make taming Eurypterids and Cnidaria much safer, preventing them from attempting to attack during passive tames.

Notes/Trivia

  • If used with the Additional Aberrant Dinos mod, the Ammonite from NU will spawn instead of AAD's as long as it is higher in the load order
