The Meganeura functions as a shoulder mounted radar, able to detect item caches, fertilised eggs, dinos, and explorer notes.
Appearance
The normal version's appearance is identical to the vanilla version. For information, see the vanilla page. The R-Meganeura is iridescent, and can be found in a wide variety of colours. They have triangular spotting down the side of their abdomen, and swirls on their head and thorax. Their legs are banded, and they have black and white splodges on their wings.

Abilities
While shoulder-mounted, the Meganeura acts as a radar. Pressing G will scan the area, and the Meganeura will identify enemy players, enemy dinos, wild dinos, corpses, item caches, fertilised eggs, and explorer notes. Each detectable target has a unique color and icon. Detection for a given item can be disabled the radial wheel under Radar Settings, in case you don't want to be notified of every nearby corpse or only want to go after explorer notes. In ARK: Survival Ascended, the Meganeura's radar ability can be levelled in three different ways, similarly to harvesting levels on the Therizinosaur and Moschops. The range can be upgraded 50 times, speed 10 times, and interval 20 times.
The Meganeura is extremely accurate in terms of determining hostile wild dinos as it has checks for targeting team and AI behavior trees, rather than just going off the "is carnivore" flag like Parasaurs. As a result there is no false flagging of non-hostile carnivores like Dung Beetles and Oviraptors, and hostile herbivores such as Therizinosaurs will properly show as hostile. Creatures that are targeting an ally will show as hostile regardless of normal behavior. The Meganeura cannot detect hidden players/dinos such as camo'd drakes or buried creatures. Corrupted dinos spawned from Orbital Supply Drops/Element Veins will have a purple marker rather than yellow to help detect "stuck" dinos that are preventing the wave from progressing. Normal Corrupted dinos use the default yellow color.

Taming
For general information about domesticating a wild creature, see: Taming
Meganeura are tamed non-violently, rather than through the usual methods. They prefer eating spoiled meat, and after being fed once, the Meganeura will stay close to the player that fed them if they are still nearby, unless damaged.
Utility
- OSD Companion: They're valuable for tracking down dinos that are stuck progressing an OSD or Element Vein
- Item Cache Locator: Whether looking for dropped loot or trying to recover the items of a dead tame, Meganeura make it much easier to find item caches that are hidden by foliage and blend in with the ground.
- Travel Awareness: Detecting hostile dinos can help a survivor remain safe while exploring
- Explorer Note Tracker: When hunting for explorer notes, the Meganeura makes it much easier to visually find the exact location of a note to activate it. This is particularly true on Aberration, where coordinates may be above or below, and outside the GPS' 2D capabilities.
