While I might not know what Extinction's new creature should be, I know where it should spawn: the Sulfur Fields. The Sulfur Fields represent one of the four quadrants of the map and yet there's not a single unique species that spawns there.

As Extinction is all about adapting for a post-apocalyptic Earth, I decided it would be prudent to limit myself to creature that already have a propensity for survive in sulfur-rich environments. Meet the Volcano Snail.

Basic Info

Appearance

Volcano snails have glossy black shells and neon orange flesh. Their flesh is coated in layers of overlapping scales made of iron sulfides, which it synthesises from its environment.

Their size scales directly with wild points allocated in Food, with wild specimens spawning anywhere between Achatina and Ankylosaurus. One can only imagine how big a well-bred Volcano snail might grow.

Encounter

Volcano snails are at home in the Sulfur Fields of Extinction where they are often targeted as rich sources of  Metal - the bigger the better. They are--unsurprisingly--very durable.

While even a fully grown Volcano snail does not pose much of a threat to other similarly-sized creatures in its environment - anything small enough to be smothered should be wary of turning their back.

Domestication

Taming

Volcano snails are tamed in the same manner as the Gacha: by discarding metal and allowing the snail to slowly consume it. You can improve taming affinity by providing refined metal and other composite products.

Volcano Snails that are sufficiently large can be ridden bareback.

Volcano snails possess natural armor, similar to Shadowmane, which is to represent their iron scales. Similar to how Gasbags utilize their Oxygen as a Shield, the Volcano snails will utilize their Food as a Shield.
