Basic Info

Appearance

Astrolutrine are perpetually airborne, as with Astrodelphis and Astrocetus. The are incapable of walking. Their appearance is somewhere between a scaled otter and an axolotl, with a vocal sac that they can engorge (similar to frigatebirds and some species of frogs).

Encounter

Encountering Astrolutrine in the wild is very similar to the Astrodelphis - they spawn in groups and are inquisitive to players. Unlike the Astrodelphis, they don't play using their teeth - so you won't take damage each time they nuzzle you. They will react to player emotes and respond to in-game voice (maybe even as far as those tacky kids toys that you can speak to, and then they mimic you back but higher pitch). Similar to Ichthyosaurus in the ocean, their presence might cause annoyance - but you have nothing to fear from astrolutrine.

I am tempted to add astrocanth as a spacefish for all our astral mammals to eat, in particular so you can feed wild astrolutrines or watch them hunt. As the "living fossil", I think it would be suitably ironic that they're still around in space.

Domestication

Taming
  • Astrolutrines are passively tamed via a mimicry minigame. You must pet the creature to begin the game, after which it will begin to periodically perform emotes.
    • You gain taming progress by correctly mimicing the emoting; and you lose taming efficiency when you fail.
    • As an accessibility feature, HLN-A will verbally communicate what emote the astrolutrine performs. Alternatively, this minigame could have a full interface similar to hacking a Tek Stryder.
    • Only default survivor emotes are applicable.
    • The Astrolutrine will become stationary once you begin the performance - until interrupted by the survivor's failure to play the game or the creature enters combat. Other nearby Astrolutrines will react to your performance, too.

Utility
  • While on your shoulder in a terrestrial biome, Astrolutrines grant low gravity - similar to being in the Lunar Biome in the Genesis Simulation.
    • This can be toggled using the Light Pet emote or from the radial menu. Lightweight, amirite?
    • You also gain the ability control descent [C : Crouch Key] while under the effects of low gravity or using the Tek Chespiece in normal gravity.
  • While on your shoulder, your gain increased flight speed, ascend speed and descend speed while in space.
    • Without a Tek Suit, your mobility will be boosted to just short of the Tek Suit.
    • With a Tek Suit, your mobility will be boosted to match the Tek Suit's underwater speeds.
  • Idle astrolutrine will mimic emotes performed by nearby survivors.
    • While on your shoulder, they will accentuate your emotes - similar to the Bloodstalker.
