Like other vampire bats, Desmodus gigantovampyrus has an affinity for blood. After pinning down their prey using, they use their incredibly sharp incisors to rip huge chunks of flesh from the target and expose gushing veins. Derivative of an idea by Shadowenigma250x.
Basic Info
- Appearance
Desmodus gigantovampyrus is the largest bat I've ever seen, being nearly as large as the Island's tapejaras. Like most bats, it's entirely nocturnal, prowling the night skies for unwary prey. I've heard many a tale of tribes being too terrified to go out at night through fear of the aerial predator.
- Encounter
The creatures are solitary by nature, and will often see you before you see them. There is one note of hope, however: during the day, the Desmodus are severely handicapped. Lacking the stamina for flight, the Desmodus spend the day on land and will often be found sleeping. Do note that being land-bound is not as much of a limiter as one might expect (or hope) from a bat.
Domestication
The Desmodus does not utilize the Food stat. Consequently, they do not passively regenerate health and instead slowly lose health, but at a rate comparable to the Food stat of idle dinos (nothing insane). Stamina will regenerate freely. In order to heal a Desmodus, you must feed it items that directly restore Health (namely Blood Packs and Medicine), or use its Feast On Prey ability (see below).
- Stats
- Overview: Rivalling the direbear, but with Megalosaurus-style Sleep Deprivation (including the complete inability to fly during the day).
- Health: 400 (+80)
- Stamina: 500 (+50)
- Oxygen: 270 (+27)
- Food: N/A.
- Weight: 650 (+13)
- Melee Damage
- Swipe (LMB): 50 (+2.5)
- Pin Down (LMB): 10 (+0.5)
- Feast On Prey (RMB): 65 (+3.25)
- Movement Speed
- Day: Reduced as with the Megalosaurus.
- Night Ground: 190 / 1150
- Night Flying: 700 / 1350
- Usage
- - Swipe
- - Pin Down. The Desmodus pins down the target, preventing them from moving (same range as picking up a target on other creatures).
- - Feast On Prey. The Desmodus savages their quarry, restoring health equal to 100% of the damage dealt.
- Ground:
- WS Movement - Capable of moving forward and backward. Turn using facing direction with the same turn rate as the Sabertooth.
- Flying (Night Only):
- Pin Down can be used on valid flying targets to bring them down. The Desmodus will not take fall damage while using this attack, although I have not decided if the target should.
- WASD Movement - Capable of moving forward, backward and strafing.
- Real-time Cursor Rotation - Always facing the cursor.
- Breeding
- Baby Desmodus are comparable to Wyverns. They have their maximum health from the beginning, which goes down at a similar rate to the Wyvern's food. They will request Fresh Blood every 3-4 hours from their Imprinter, similar to Wyverns (but can be force fed Blood Bags by other tribe members to extend the timer, if necessary). "Fresh Blood" is directly taken from the Imprinter.
- Roles
- Flying mount with competitive ground capabilities - a flying sabertooth, so to speak. Handicapped by their diet and sleep deprivation.
- Harvests Blood Packs from Human corpses, harvesting 1 per 25 Health the target has (or "had" while alive).
- Does not harvest any meat at all from corpses, but harvests skins as well as a sabertooth (e.g. Hide, Pelt and Chitin).
- The Desmodus grants Night Vision, similar to the Shadow Steak Saute.
