The common Salamander, sometimes called a Fire Newt, is fairly common upon The Island - but is so small that nothing pays them any heed. They can be collected as simply as picking stones from the beach, although collecting one will trigger the skittish instincts of nearby Salamander.

Some like to drop the Salamander within their base and keep them as pets, although they are never truly "tamed" and frequently escape while everyone is sleeping. A coy reference to despawning. However, their true application is in their poison. While somewhat cruel, the Salamander is perfectly sized for use with a  Slingshot, and applies substantial torpidity and slow to targets hit.

Notes
  • The Salamander is mechanically similar to loose stones and are technically an item rather than a creature.
  • While Wild Salamander are visually skittish while being collected to simulate not-being-an-item, no other creature will interact with them nor they to other creatures.
Usage
  • Collect Salamander using E, a  Whip or with the Pezosiren's Hoover attack. Gather rates will not increase the amount collected. Salamander stack up to 20 and weigh 0.01 KG each.
  • Equip the Salamander into a Slingshot to use as ammunition.
  • The Salamander has a base damage of 10 and applies 5x Torpidity on-hit and 20x Torpidity over 10 seconds.
