Dossier

A large, fleshy flower atop a long, almost prehensile vine. The flower has an maw-like appearance, similar to the modern Venus Flytrap. Hydnora dionaea, unlike the modern species, has been gifted with the terrifying adaptation of reach. Surprisingly aggressive, the Vinemaw's preferred offensive strategy is to swallow its target whole. For better or worse, the Vinemaw is not a quick digester.

Fortunately, wild Hydnora do not seem to mature beyond their juvenille stage, and are not capable of swallowing anything larger than a  Dodo - but they will still take a bit out of larger targets.

Domestication

The Hydnora gains bonus Farming Effectiveness when planted within the Swamp, but is recommended to be planted indoors immediately behind doorways - in a prime position to gobble up invaders before they realise it's there.

Usage
  • Mature Hydnora can swallow-whole anything a  Kaprosuchus can grab, up to one at a time.
  • Swallowed targets are dealt continuous damage, which also increases their torpidity and reduces their stamina.
  • Swallowed creatures are paralysed, but swallowed humans can attempt to free themselves - although will almost certain fall unconscious before succeeding.
  • The Hydnora's owner can release the target by putting the plant to sleep.
  • Consumes meat to restore health, allowing it to sustain in fights.
  • Capable of harvesting corpses in a comparable quantity to the  Rex.
  • Passively provides a 400x spoil multiplier to consumables within its inventory.
    • As with other crop plots, only seeds and fertilizer can be placed within the crop plot, so the spoil multipler is only applied to things it gathers personally.
