This custom creature began as a desire to recreate Discworld with my own turtle-topped base. Since then, Wild Card has released the  Megachelon and many unofficial servers run the ARK Additions mod with its Archelon. I am of the opinion that the ARK Additions mod should get Official Mod status - and so what was I to do with my suggestion? Well, during 2021's Guild Wars 2 and Final Fantasy Online resurgence - I was fortunate enough to catch a glance of this beautiful flying turtle.

I had already planned on penning a giant jellyfish for my Astral Collection project - so a turtle would be a great addition!

Basic Info

Appearance

Unlike modern turtles, the shell of the Astrochelon is composed of thick hide. While still a durable creature, it's not as noteworthy as the carbonemys.

Encounter

Astrochelon primarily feast upon astrodaria, and thus can be found in the same asteroid fields as their prey. They are untamable, but as with contemporary turtles - they lay their eggs on land and rely on a r-selection strategy (lay enough eggs and surely some of them will survive to adulthood).

Notes

Terrestrial inspiration

If ARK Addition's Archelon is added, the following updates should be applied to the Carbonemys:

  • References to 'Turtle' removed (e.g. 'Turtle Eggs' are now 'Carbo Eggs').
  • Carbonemys can now Retract [C], hiding much of their non-shell hitbox and reducing knockback effects against them.
    • Carbonemys will automatically Retract while under attack from a flying enemy.
    • Carbonemys will Retract while airborne and will deal damage upon impacting with a unit, similar to the Doedicurus's Roll.
    • Retract does not benefit the rider.
    • Tamed Carbonemys can be made to Retract using the Menu Wheel.
    • To clarify: Carbonemys do NOT Retract based on a health threshold.
  • Carbonemys gain one of the following:
    1. Lock Beak attack [RMB] that immobilizes that target so long as the effect is active. While active, the Carbonemys cannot [LMB] and its stamina will continuously deplete (lets go once exhausted). Wild Carbonemys will not use this attack.
    2. LMB is now armor-piercing.
  • Spawn locations updated to reflect that they weren't aquatic. As an example of possible Island spawn locations:

     Common

     Uncommon
