Basic Info

Wild Info

The Phoenix are immensely long-lived creatures, to the extent no-one knows where the first Phoenix came from. Whenever a Phoenix "dies", an egg containing itself can be found within its ashes. They can be found soaring the high skies of Scorched Earth, most easily seen at night.

Encounter

While classically depicted as creature with a Good-aligned morale compass, ARK's firebird is truly neutral. They are not pacifists, nor will they shy from a fight or harbour ill will toward an evil owner. If you're just coming from The Island, the Phoenix's reactive nature is a stark contrast to what you are used to from the skies - but to the wyvern-endured survivors of Scorched Earth, the Phoenix is both a prize and a challenge.

Their beak and talons are molten-hot and capable of cutting through even the sturdiest of armor like butter; while their fiery body is devastating for any creature to attack.

If you must approach, it is recommended to do so during one of the desert's exceptionally rare rainstorms - the Phoenix's fiery affinity is mitigated, leaving the creature not much stronger than an argentavis - or at least at night, when it is coolest and their innate health regeneration is less.

The Phoenix is not only fireproof, but converts the damage it would take into health restored.

Domestication

Taming

The Phoenix does not utilise the Food statistic and consequently does not starve or recover health in the conventional sense. The Phoenix possesses natural Health Regeneration, which is modified based on the ambient temperature (resting at 0 while at 80°C, and decaying at a similar rate to the Giganotosaurus's food at Freezing). In addition to its ambient Health Regeneration, the Phoenix will also restore health directly from Fire Damage: namely Campfires, Lava and Fire Wyverns.

Similarly to Wyverns, the Phoenix must be raised from an egg. However, unlike Wyverns, a Phoenix Egg can only be obtained from the ashes of a defeated Phoenix - either one found in the wild, or from an enemy.

As with the Wyvern (and all babies, really), in order to raise a baby Phoenix you must simply keep it alive for the full duration of maturation or else it will perish (from which you can reobtain the egg). While the egg does not utilize its durability, it will still time-out after 7 days on the ground (for memory purposes).

At Imprinting periods, it may request:

  • Wants to be set ablaze (to be dealt a random amount of Fire Damage);
  • Wants to nestle (similar to a cuddle, except the player will be dealt damage);
  • Wants to go for a walk.

Usage
  • The Phoenix's attacks ignore a flat amount of the target's armor, allowing it to completely ignore the armor of weaker targets.
  • LMB.svg Melee - The Phoenix alternates between pecking, gouging with talons or performing a sweep with its wings.
  • RMB.svg Swoop - This attack causes the Phoenix to dash forward a short distance, ignoring creature collision for the duration and damaging everything the Phoenix passes through.
  • C Grab.
  • W - Capable of moving forward. Turns based on facing direction, with a turning circle similar to the Argentavis.
  • Can land and take off from Lava, similarly to the Pelagornis on water. This is only useful for healing the Phoenix, or for having a safe place to afk.
Roles
  • Passively provides Hot.png 285 Hypothermic Insulation, which depreciates with distance.
  • Gathers Cooked Meat from corpses.
    • Passives cooks Raw Prime Meat, Raw Meat, Raw Prime Fish Meat and Raw Prime Fish placed within its inventory at the same rate as a Campfire.
  • Both of the Phoenix's attacks can harvest Charcoal from Tree nodes.
    • Passively burn Wood within its inventory into Charcoal at the same rate as the basic Forge.
  • Flying Combat Mount.
  • Impermanent Death (provided you recover the egg).
  • Prestige.
