These monstrous parasites feed on the essence of Draconics, and when they aren't hunting, they reside in narrow caves to remain safe from the resultant wrath of their sizeable prey. With their penchant for exploiting dragons, their venom has many properties effective for weakening them in a variety of ways to aid a Survivor during the taming process, although they have utility against many regular creatures of the ARKs as well.

Appearance

These alien looking creatures have a large head and lack any legs, supporting themselves with only their large, flipper-like wings and wide, flat tail. Their back is armored by a row of hard, spiked plating, running from behind the similarly shaped frill on their head. They possess three eyes with wide, round pupils on each side of their head, with the central eye being the largest. Their curved jaws form most of the head, and sport sturdy, outwards-angled teeth, well equipped for piercing the armored hides of their primary prey. The tips of their wings, their plates, and crescent shaped win markings are typically found in dark grey or blue shades, whilst the rest of their bodies can be found with a variety of purple, green, red and blue hues. The glowing markings on their wings and their eyes also appear in a variety of bright colours across every range, but most frequently in reds and blues. Rather than crescent splodges, the Scorched variant has a wave of 6 jagged stripes curving down from the leading edge of its wing, to the inner. They can be found with primarily yellow, orange and grey coloration, with a few rare purple shades.

Behavior

Residing within caves, the Dracomorph is typically aggressive, attacking Survivors that enter their territory on sight. Their aggression makes them difficult to feed, as they will snap at any hand that comes near them, but if immobilized enough to be fed, their attitude will warm towards the target. Once an offering of File:Mod Draconomicon Synthetic Draconic Essence.png Synthetic Draconic Essence has been made, they will begin to follow Survivor, and even allow themselves to hang by their shoulder at the promise of being led to their draconic prey. A wild Dracomorph will immediately prioritize any draconic creature (such as a  Wyvern) that comes near it, driven to a frenzy by the promise of snatching a meal.

Abilities

Bite
  • The Dracomorph bites the target for 36 damage.
  • Can be used every 1.6s by both a rider and the AI.

Spit
  • The Dracomorph spits a projectile at the target. Effect on draconics varies depending on taming method. All other creatures receive torpor equal to damage dealt * 9 and the  Slowed debuff for 10 seconds.
  • Can be used while a Survivor's shoulder follower.
  • Scales with melee damage.
  • AI will not use this attack on a creature at 95% or higher torpidity.
  • Can be used every 3.5s by both a rider and the AI.

Wild Stats Level-up

Type in values of a wild creature to see on which stats it's emphasized. Green values on a high-level creature are very good for breeding. If you have already tamed your creature you can try to recover the breeding stats with an external tool.[1]

Draconomicon/Dracomorph

The stat-calculator does not work in the mobile-view, see here for alternatives: Apps

Note that after the creature is tamed it gets bonuses on some stats depending on the taming effectiveness. This makes it hard to retrieve the levels on a tamed creature, so this tool is only for wild ones, but gives a first impression, how well the stats are distributed.

Combat

The Dracomorph is small and fast, and though its bite is not exceedingly dangerous, the  Torpidity inducing effect of its spit can cause lethal outcomes- bringing strong armor, high  Fortitude and a supply of  Stimulants is advised when when entering their territory. There is a short delay between each attempt to strike a target with their projectile, so utilizing a  Shield and attacking between each attack is a safer method if attempting to kill them on foot. Additionally, it is unwise to attempt to combat them with any form of draconic creature, due to their largely increased damage against such creatures.

Drops

Taming

The Dracomorph is resistant to the toxins used in typical KO taming, thus its trust must be gained through other methods. Since it will stick attack Survivors on sight, they must first be immobilized with a  Bola, which will restrain them long enough to approach and offer them a meal of File:Mod Draconomicon Synthetic Draconic Essence.png Synthetic Draconic Essence, crafted in the  Chemistry Bench. From here, there is a choice for how to continue the taming: the fastest option is to set it to follow on the Survivor's shoulder, and seek out a draconic creature for it to hunt. Each bite will gain taming progress, with higher amounts depending on the specific creature. A  Chain Bola to immobilize faster creatures such as File:Wyverns.png Wyverns will greatly assist the Dracomorph in feeding. Alternatively, they can continue to be fed Essence, however they cannot be bola'd for 90 seconds after each feed and will not allow any Survivor's hand to get close enough to their jaws otherwise.

The three types of File:Mod Draconomicon Synthetic Draconic Essence.png Synthetic Draconic Essence have different effectiveness for taming. Mighty essence, from the  Dragon Trophy, has extremely high effectiveness. Regular essence extracted from  Wyvern Talons is the next most preferred, with the Spliced essence of regular ARK inhabitants being the least effective.

Utility

  • Taming assistance: The Dracomorph can spit a potent liquid to weaken and disable other creatures. In most cases, this liquid has a strong narcotic effect, whilst also slowing the target down. However due to the specialized nature of the Dracomorph, some draconic entities will be affected in ways that contribute to the individual's taming method.
  • Dragon hunter: With their high damage output against draconic creatures, a flock of Dracomorphs make a dangerous opponent for an enemy dragon or wyvern to encounter.
