Wild

Similar in size of Megalodon, but far more calm, Helicoprion reclusively lurk in the open waters of the ARKs ocean environments. While they are imposing with their familiar silhouette, Helicoprion pose no threat unless provoked. That is, unless you happen to be an unfortunate Ammonite, which Helicoprion have a strong desire to chomp down on! With strong jaws and even a stronger tail, Helicoprion can pose a dangerous threat if they've been bothered. The jaws of Helicoprion are used to quickly and efficiently slice up bodies of Cephalopod creatures, and the tail in particular has evolved to be more like a Thresher sharks. This significant change is used to great effect at stunning prey. Some survivors claim more powerful Heli can even knock out foes with a powerful whip of their tail!

Domesticated

The truly remarkable jaw of Helicoprion can be used for much more than just eating Ammonites. Oddly enough, the precise cutting power the tooth whorl provides can be used to separate the various components of equipment. For some older specimens, this process allows survivors to record the crafting requirements for their various equipment. I've only seen the most experienced crafters employ this bizarre utility, but it's an astonishingly useful one for sure!

Behavior

Helicoprion minds its business unless attacked, and when it retaliates, it attacks with a normal bite and a tail swipe, which stuns the attacker if it lands.

Abilities

  • Left Click - This key triggers a simple bite.
  • Right Click - This key triggers tail swipe, stunning smaller targets while inducing a small amount torpor.
  • C - Pressing C near the surface will allow the Helicoprion to catapult itself out of the water, performing a little cosmetic breach.

Taming

Taming Method

Taming a Helicoprion requires your character to be atleast level 91.

To tame a Helicoprion, you have to hand-feed it some Little Ratfish Treats. Once fed be careful, as it will produce a cloud similar to that of an  Ammonite. Just like for the  Ammonite, this will turn every wild creature around you agressive. This repeats every time you feed it, forcing some wild Megalodon to spawn.

Clearing out the area around the Helicoprion you want to tame beforehand is advised. This will reduce the amount of enemies you will have to fight during the taming process.

Bringing a strong and nimble aquatic tame with you is a must, as you need some way to precisely kill the spawning waves of wild creatures.

Utility

Blueprint Crafter - Once tamed, it can turn items into blueprints without resetting their rarity. However, this process may fail if the Helicoprion got a low "Conversion Success Rate" stat. In contrast, a higher Conversion Success Rate value reduces the chance of this happening.

Industrial Helper - Using its jaws, it can also act as a grinder, allowing you to skip the need for an Industrial Grinder.

(This can be activated and deactivated in the .INI settings. It can be found under "HeliCanRefundResources" and is enabled by default.)

Ammonite Killer - The Helicoprion is immune to the Ammonite debuff and deals increased damages to them, ideal for hunting them down.

Tuso Killer - It is one of a view selected creatures, that is immune to the Tusoteuthis grab attack, making it a viable battle mount to explore the deep sea.

Additional Ini Config "HeliEnablePufferfishAaugh" enables/disables the pufferfish sound when failing a craft. This is enabled by default.
