It can be used to craft a few items exclusive to Primitive+. It is also well used to restore food of humans and especially tamed dinos.
It seems like Tomatoes can be used to tame at least some herbivores, but due to the high food restoration taming would take a disproportionately long time.

Tomato is used to craft the following items:

- Tomatoes restore 40 food and 10 water when eaten by humans, and 800 food when eaten by herbivores
