Not a Bird!

Please stop editing Yi Ling and saying that its a bird. It is a dinosaur, not a bird or fantasy creature. Yi is a real genus name, so it is no more fantasy than Tyrannosaurus dominium. --Geckosaurus (talk) 18:30, 8 September 2023 (UTC)

Eh, at the very least T. dominium, while a dumb, made-up name, somewhat resembles a T-Rex. This can't be said IMO about Yi Ling or (to a lesser level) Rhyniognathia. Regardless, I don't fully see the reason why Yi Ling should be marked as a bird and not a dinosaur, so if someone's going to change it, at least use the "edit summary" field to give a reason. Empty fields or "this is a dinosaur (but I'm not gonna say why it's not a bird to end the edit war)" are not good reasons. Alex4401 (talk) 20:04, 8 September 2023 (UTC)
Well it doesn't matter if it doesn't look like the real thing. This wiki is for OFFICIAL data and Yi is a dinosaur. It doesn't matter how different from the real species it is, Yi is by official ARK and paleontological data, a dinosaur. It is certainly closely related to the first birds, like Archaeopteryx, but it is most widely accepted as a non-avian dinosaur. Geckosaurus (talk) 19:58, 15 September 2023 (UTC)
Don't worry, I think it should be classified as a dinosaur, but ultimately I have no real say in here other than steering away from edit warring. Alex4401 (talk) 05:47, 16 September 2023 (UTC)

Why I think it's a bird

Although Yi Qi is dinosaur, Yi Ling is a bird, not a dinosaur, why you ask? Here's why.

Img-3.jpg

Let's talk about Yi Qi first, Yi Qi is a species of scansoriopterygid dinosaurs from the Late Jurassic of China. It was a small, possibly tree-dwelling (arboreal) animal. Like other scansoriopterygids, Yi possessed an unusual, elongated third finger, that appears to have helped to support a membranous gliding plane made of skin. The planes of Yi qi were also supported by a long, bony strut attached to the wrist. This modified wrist bone and membrane-based plane is unique among all known dinosaurs, and might have resulted in wings similar in appearance to those of bats. (Yes, this info is from Wikipedia, but hey it's good to know)

Yes, Yi Qi can count as a dinosaur,

Yi Ling however is a different story,

Concept art.

Now tell me, what do you see here? A Dinosaur or a Bird? I see a bird

While Yi may be a real genus name, Ling may not (so is Dominium)

This also may be an evolved version of the Yi Qi, as birds are descended from dinosaurs. Since Yi Ling will be in Aberration, it would be possible that in lore-wise that Yi Qi was probably in that ARK before it collapsed, following that said collapse, Yi Qi probably got exposed to Element and evolved into a bird-like creature with bat wings for gliding, the Yi Ling (Gasbags where originally Tardigrades before they got exposed to Element, just an example of how unpredictable Element can be at times)

The dev's said that "the final result was too far removed from the actual Yi Qi." This wasn't the first time a fan-submitted creature got changed based off the original submission, Fasolasuchus got changed from a Rock Elemental killer to a sand-shark. Yi Qi got an even bigger change from a dinosaur to a bird.

So I think that Yi Ling is a bird, not a dinosaur — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cbmanos11 (talkcontribs) at 00:55, 11 September 2023‎. Please sign your posts with ~~~~

That's not how it works. Two species of the same genus can not be different families. Yi Ling, although extremely different from the real Yi qi (scientifically it would be Yi qi, not Yi Qi), is still not officially a bird. Unless Wildcard clarifies that it is a bird by official ARK data, it would be smarter to classify as its real-world group for the time being. You can't classify it as a Bird based only on a fan-made story. Geckosaurus (talk) 20:02, 15 September 2023 (UTC)
