Terrain

Terrain in ARK: Survival Evolved is the visible part of the world that cannot be directly interacted with beyond movement. Most terrain is unpassable, for example, the player walks on the ground and cannot fall through it, and cliff walls cannot be walked or flown through. Some terrain is passable, for example, the water in rivers, ponds and oceans, or illusory walls hiding cave entrances. Terrain can also include vegetation, which cannot be directly harvested.

Terrain appearance is also usually used to give visual indications as to which of the biomes it belongs to. For example, deserts tend to use sand and lighter colored rocks with minimal vegetation and plants, whereas jungles are more vibrantly colored, with extensive vegetation and plants.
