Why are there a bunch of duplicates on this table, with no labels to tell you how they differ? And where did Humans go from the list? FFIXMaster (talk) 01:24, 26 May 2018 (UTC)

True Speed of Tamed Flyers

I just added the following section on my website (www.jagid.me/gaming/ark) and I figured someone who knows how to update the table might be able to use the information:

True Speed of Tamed Flyers

True speed is viewable by running this console command: "ShowDebug physics". To turn off physics debugging run: "ShowDebug reset". For more information see the Console Commands page. Debug is not a cheat so you do not need to be logged in as admin or preface it with "cheat".

  • Griffin: Cruise: 920, Sprint: 2301, Maximum Vertical Dive*: 8728, Easy Approx Average Swoop Speed While Traveling*: 6750, Average Approx Actual Land Travel (2d) Speed*: 4000+
  • Wyvern: Cruise: 2490, Sprint: 3355.
  • Pteranodon: Cruise: 848, Sprint: 2427.
  • Tapejera: Cruise: 1075, Sprint: 1720.
  • Pelagornis: Cruise: 785, Sprint: 1540.
  • Argentavis: Cruise: 655, Sprint: 1475.
  • Quetzal: Cruise: 608, Sprint: 1097.

I highlighted a couple interesting results above. One shows the wyvern's cruising speed is actually faster than a ptera's sprint speed. Nice! And the tapejera's cruise speed is almost as fast as a quetzal's sprint. Not bad!

And as you can see with the numbers for the griffin, if you're willing to work for it you can achieve some amazing travel speeds. Otherwise a wyvern or a ptera are the way to go since the griffin's normal sprint speed is actually slower than a ptera's.

Also note that tamed wyverns set to follow you will not sprint. They will only cruise. If you want to bring a mate for the boost be sure to keep your finger off the shift key. While there's no mate boost to be had with griffins, if you want to lead one home on follow remember you cannot swoop-dive travel as the AI does not know how to do that. Regular sprint so you don't leave your following griffin behind all alone.

*Vertical dive testing was from top of the sky box at the force field to sea level on Ragnarok. Average swoop-travel speed is based on the ease of hitting a speed of 8000 after establishing your travel speed and an easy-to-use visual cue of the griffin taking a few wing beats after it slows a bit. After a few wing beats you're at about 5500 speed so dive again to increase speed. 2d (land-travel) speed is more complicated. Watching the numbers it seemed to range from 1000 during maintenance dives to about 5500 once the griffin pulls out into level flight. The dive is brief and velocity is always fairly rapidly decelerating so those factors account for the estimate.
