Overview

Host/Local Settings are options available in ARK: Survival Evolved that are changeable to enhance single player and/or small group playthroughs of the game. There are three categories of Host/Local Settings: Basic, Advanced, and Engrams. In addition to the settings, there are also different modes available which can also be found here.

Settings

Basic

In the basic settings you can change... basic things such as the xp multiplier, difficulty level (from 0.1 to 1.0), taming speed, harvest amount, and dino, player and structure resistance. there are also several checkboxes to enable or disable certain things such as whether dinos can be ridden and tamed or not, whether you can see yourself on the map or not, whether you can go in third person or not, and whether you can have a button in the pause menu to enable god mode

Advanced

The advanced settings menu is where you are able to set very specific things such as stats per level for players and tamed and wild dinos. you can also set specific settings for pve and pvp timers, specific xp multipliers, loot quality, and structure limit. here you can also change baby imprint timers, maturation speed, imprint amount, imprint grace period, egg hatch speed, and pooping intervals

Engrams

This section is very simple, you can enable or disable any engram you want and that's all

Modes

There are five modes available, you can find a brief description of each mode below:

  • Single Player
  • Run Dedicated
  • Run Procedural
  • Run Nondedicated

All modes have the in-game timers (cooking, incubation, maturation, spoil, etc.) only running while the "server" is active whether that is an actual server or playing single player. Therefore, eggs, baby dinos, and resource respawn will only progress when playing on the desired Ark. This means hatching a baby Rex without increased speed will mean Ark must be left open for approximately 3 days and 20 hours.

Single Player

Single player is essentially just regular ARK: Survival Evolved, but the player has access to Console commands. In addition to Console commands, Single player can also support split screen play and the pause menu actually pauses the gameplay unlike on a dedicated server.

Run Dedicated

A dedicated session is a mode where you sit on a screen with many buttons to ban, whitelist, unban, and give admin to the players on your server. while running dedicated sessions you are unable to play and can only administrate the session

Run Nondedicated

A non dedicated session is almost the exact same as a single player session, however when you open the pause menu the game does not freeze. you can invite your friends and other players to non dedicated sessions however they can only be within an about 250m radius before they start getting dragged towards the host by a Host Barrier as it is commonly referred to as. in this mode you are still able to use console commands as well as split screen play however players other than the host need to input an admin password if one is set in order to use commands.
