Gabriel

Gabriel is a 19th century Gold Rush miner. Ever since he has awoken on the Colony Ship, he has grown curious about the Tek Stryder's mining capabilities. However, his mind isn't the only one that is inhabiting his body.

Background

In his previous life, he was a typical Gold Rush miner who staked out a claim. However, he was living in what will become the United States state of California. With the end of the Mexican-American War, and the land becoming the state of California, American settlers took his claim and forced him out of his home. He was soon caught and later executed for a new rule that the settlers made.

In his life when he was Ixion, he lived in the city of Alexandria who had the occupation of being a cultist for the God Serapis. He was soon cast aside by his fellow cultists. However, Ixion had a dream about a mysterious entity giving him instructions on how to manipulate Element which was described as a purple metal. After that, he took a young girl, sedated her and took her to a catacomb where she will be sacrificed for Serapis. However, Roman authorities found him and killed him shortly after Ixion called upon Serapis for help.

Between the time he died and when he was woken up on the Colony Ship, Yongki's team had one job: to archive every single known human on Earth. However, a complication occurred where Yongki's division mixed Gabriel's engrammic matrix with another: a Roman cultist by the name of Ixion. Santiago described this as stapling two souls together and making a human that never existed in Earth's history. He noted that something affected the AI that caused the mix. Now, the person is someone who has the mind and personality of Gabriel, but has the memories and subconscious of Ixion.

Personality

Being a person with two personalities mixed together in one body, Gabriel soon lives with two minds in his body. In his dominant personality as himself, according to Nida, he was always irritable, yet understanding of his situation. But as a Gold-Rush miner, he is not without a sense of greed of material things as portrayed when he now wanted to find more of the Element ore in the Eden ring, but he regrets for what he has done. With his memories and subconscious of Ixion, Gabriel had memories of doing sadistic things all for the glory of Serapis.

When Gabriel was with Nida in the Corrupted gardens ring, his writing started having more and more high-level vocabulary, indicating that his personalities started to merge with each other. By the time he and Nida are being demanded to submit to Rockwell, Gabriel's mind is still in control, but Ixion's vocabulary and language has meshed with Gabriel's.

Relationships with Other Survivors

Nida

• Nida was a Colony Ship member that he found in the pipe system of the Eden ring while she contacted him through his helmet. They were tense at first, but they gradually became neutral with each other as they talked about their occupations being related to the ground. The Tek Stryder was their connection. She helped Gabriel as best as she can in his orientation about what is going on in the Colony Ship. From Gabriel's point of view, Nida is rather smart since she has been exposed to Tek technology for all her life.
• Nida started to lose trust in Gabriel when she noticed that he was rushed through Genesis, and she feels something is off about him.

HLN-A

• The AI in the Genesis Simulation, it asked Gabriel to join her in facing against Rockwell, but Gabriel decided to follow Rockwell's instructions.
• When Nida put Gabriel through a simulation of a sunset of the habitable planet, HLN-A was present and told him that it was not too late to let go of the hatred of his past life.

Edmund Rockwell

• When Gabriel exited his Genesis pod, he followed the instructions of the second voice (Edmund Rockwell) to a suit of Exo armor.
• Rockwell tasked Gabriel through his subconscious ego, Ixion, to find Nida.
• Rockwell has constantly manipulated Gabriel throughout his time on the Genesis Colony Ship.
  • He allowed Gabriel to keep the element shard he found in the Eden biome.
  • Rockwell questioned Gabriel for joining a lost cause in retaking the ship from him with Nida.
  • He also demanded Gabriel to be obedient to him.
  • When they met in person, Rockwell ordered Gabriel to start mining for Element.

Appearance

Not much is known about his appearance, but he is portrayed as a person who has very long hair and a just as bushy beard and moustache.

Survival Skills

• Not much is known about his survival skills, but given his background as a Gold Rush miner, he was a capable survivor. He was able to understand how the Tek Stryder works despite its technology being centuries ahead of his time. With the memories that he unintentionally received from Ixion, he was able to subconsciously make a blade out of Element. He is one of the two survivors who faced Rockwell Prime, but inevitably was taken control of by a noglin. He was strong enough to resist the noglin mind control long enough to give Nida a chance to escape

The End of Gabriel

Between the time he fell unconscious and when he woke up in Rockwell's throne room, his subconscious personality, Ixion, resurfaced and began to mix with Gabriel's personality and mind. As a result, the archived matrix is a person who has both traits of Gabriel and Ixion. Rockwell demanded that he begin mining the entire ship for Element, which he refused. He and Nida fought against Rockwell until a Noglin began to control him. He threw out his dagger to give Nida a chance to escape, which she did. His fate is unknown, but he is presumably killed since a player can get killed when a Noglin detaches themselves from their host.

Notes/Trivia

• Ixion is a prince in the greek mythology, doomed by the Gods for having killed his step-father and having tried to seduce Hera, Zeus' wife.
• Gabriel is named after the famous biblical angel of the same who told Mary that she would be the mother of God's son, Jesus.
  • His name means "God is my Strength". It is fitting since he was strong enough to handle two personalities in his head and resist the mind control of a noglin.
