The following page lists the default controls for PC (Steam/Epic Game Store) using mouse and keyboard, as well for consoles (Xbox, PlayStation, Switch) editions of  ARK: Survival Evolved. Gamepad Controls for PC editions are not customizable and they roughly match those for Xbox. For ARK: Survival Evolved Mobile ARK: Survival Evolved Mobile controls, see Mobile:Controls and UI.

General

Movement

Run ⇧ Left Shift Press Left Stick Press Left Stick Press Left Stick When used while moving forward, will cause you to increase forward movement speed at the cost of increased stamina use, and over-rides 'Toggle Run' to on. A character may only run forwards; strafing and backpedaling speed will remain constant.
Toggle Run ⇧ Right Shift Press Left Stick Press Left Stick Press Left Stick Toggles whether run is on or off (i.e., whether Survivor or Tame walk or run) upon input of 'Move Forward'. Can be used while standing still.
Jump Space A Cross A Causes a character to jump up while stationary, and jump directionally when moving. also to ascend to surface when diving.
Crouch C Press Right Stick Press Right Stick Press Right Stick Also used to descend while diving.
Prone X Long Press Right Stick Long Press Right Stick Long Press Right Stick Causes the player's character to lay down.
Xbox/PS4/Switch: One must release pressure after a pause. Also used to descend while diving.

Combat

Primary Fire Left RT R2 RB Will cause the primary attack with a weapon or tool, such as shooting a projectile weapon or swinging a melee weapon.
Aim-Down Sights/ Alternate Fire Right LT L2 ZL Will bring up the sights of a weapon, uses the alternate action of the object if one exists (such as the Grappling Hook un-spooling), or otherwise does nothing.
Toggle Fists Q LB + Up L1 + R1 None ('activate' tool again to unequip) Removes (or equips) item so that fists can be used. (Tested on xbox1version, 11/9/20; this button combo instead directs dinos to "Go Here.")
Reload weapon R X Square Y Will manually trigger the reload animation to fill the magazine with available corresponding ammunition. Double press will toggle the weapon attachment (maybe only for PC).
Drag Body G Y Triangle X Drags a corpse or unconscious body.
Melee/Pistol Whip Left Ctrl RB R1 RB Has the same effect as primary fire on a melee weapon, but will trigger a melee animation/attack with projectile weapons, if applicable.
Toggle Weapon Attachment N or R x2 X x2 Square x2 Y x2 Will turn off or on a weapon's attachment (if applicable). If the weapon attachment is toggle-able, it will always be off by default.

Camera

HUD

Actions

Use E Y Triangle X Activates the default action of an object, such as opening a door, climbing a ladder, or opening a storage box's inventory.

Access Other's Inventory F X Square Press Y Opens the inventory of any applicable object, such as crafting stations, storage's, and unconscious or dead bodies. Double tap F to throw shoulder-mounted creatures. (Use R once when mounted.) (Patch 302.4 Added F alternate activate option on items to pickup all items in a nearby range)

Chat


PC Note: "Alliance Chat" keys is not customizable.

Toggle Auto-Hide Chat box \ None; Accessible in Options None; Accessible in Options When on, chat box will disappear moments after the last message is sent.
Global Chat ↵ Enter LB + Windows L1 + Touch Pad Chat with all players on the server.

Tribe Chat / LB + Menu L1 + Options Chat with tribemates.
Alliance Chat Home L1 + R1 Chat with alliance-mates.

Push to Talk B None Hold to speak to other players using your microphone.

Xbox/PS4: If a microphone is plugged in and enabled, talking into it will automatically allow nearby players to hear depending on server settings.


Whistles

Single-target Whistles
Follow (One) T Hold B + Left Stick to '1'* Hold A + Left Stick to '2'* The tame looked at will start to follow the Survivor.
Stop (One) Y Hold B + Left Stick to '3'* Hold A + Left Stick to '4'* The tame looked at will stop to follow the Survivor.
Land Flyer (One) None The flying tame the Survivor is looking at will will try to land. If the tame was following a Survivor, this will stop to follow it.
Note: this action is not mapped to a key by default on PC.
Group-target Whistles
Follow (All) J Hold B + Left Stick to '12'* Hold A + Left Stick to '12' or '1'* All tames within in the near, and eventually in the selected group, will follow the Survivor (or eventually the tame the Survivor was riding when the whistle was given).
Stop (All) U Hold B + Left Stick to '2'* Hold A + Left Stick to '3'* All tames within in the near, and eventually in the selected group, will stop following the Survivor.
Move To Position , Left+Down Hold L1 + Up LB x2 All tames within in the near, and eventually in the selected group, will move to the location looked at.
Attack THIS Target . Hold LeftMenu + Left Stick to '7'* Hold L1 + Down Hold A + Left Stick to '6'* All tames within in the near, and eventually in the selected group, will attack whatever target looked at. This whistle can be used while looking at a target through the  Spyglass.
Attack My Target = Hold B + Left Stick to '4'* All tames within in the near, and eventually in the selected group, will change their aggression level to Attacking Your Target.
They will terminate their current attacks and will defend themselves if they are attacked, but will prioritize attacking whatever the Survivor attacks.
Xbox: Whistling 'aggressive' will actually cause this action to occur, and it is unknown if this is intended. This aggression setting does not actually have its own whistle.
Aggressive NumPad - None Hold A + Left Stick to '5'* All tames within in the near, and eventually in the selected group, will change their aggression level to Aggressive, attacking all enemies in their range.

Xbox: This aggression level is on the whistle wheel, but this will actually cause the aggression level 'Attack My Target' to be set, and it is unknown if this is intended.

Neutral - Hold B + Left Stick to '5'* Hold A + Left Stick to '7'* All tames within in the near, and eventually in the selected group, will change their aggression level to Neutral.
They will terminate all their current attacks but will continue to defend themselves if they are attacked again.
Passive ; Hold B + Left Stick to '6'* Hold A + Left Stick to '8'* All tames within in the near, and eventually in the selected group, will change their aggression level to Passive.
They will terminate all their current attacks and will not defend themselves if attacked further.
Tame Groups Ordering
Show Current Group H Hold Touch Pad Displays chevrons above the tames that are in the currently active ordering group. Whistles will only affect the dinosaurs within range that are in the active ordering group.
Add/Remove To Group Z The tame targeted by Survivor is added to or removed from the currently active tame ordering group.
Toggle Active Group NumPad 0‑9 Toggles the active ordering group. Press a NumPad number key to activate the corresponding group and press again to remove active ordering groups and revert whistles to affect all tamed dinosaurs within range.

While Riding A Creature or Vehicle

Action PC (default) Xbox PlayStation Switch Notes
Mount / Dismount E Y Triangle X Will cause the character to get on a creature if on foot, or get off the creature if mounted. Some creature dismounts will 'jump' your character off (which typically occurs on small-mid creatures, such as on the Parasaur, Pteranodon, and Carno), while others will cause you to stand on the back of the creature after dismount (which typically occurs on large creatures, such as on the Stegosaurus, Quetzal, and Rex).
Primary Fire Left RT R2 RB Will use a creature's primary attack.
Alternate Fire Right LT L2 LB Will use a creature's alternate attack/action if applicable, or will use primary fire if not.
Jump Space A Cross B Only some creatures -such as Raptors and Terror Birds- can use this command.
Land/ Take-off Space A Cross B With no other input, will cause the animal to land on a suitable, horizontal surface to land, and will cause the creature to launch and hover a few feet above ground to take-off, unless you are too heavy.

(Flying creatures only).

Brake X None Stop flying creature from flying forward. (Except for the Tapejara)
Throw Shoulder Mount R Y x2 Triangle x2 X x2 Throws shoulder-mounted creature (such as a Dimorphodon or a Mesopithecus) while mounted. (Press F twice while unmounted.)
Aileron roll/3rd action C Press Right Stick PressRight Stick Press Right Stick Makes the Pteranodon perform an aerial roll, or other creatures 3rd fire/action (ex: Tapejara "taunt").

While in Inventory


PC Note: The following keys are not customizable, except for "Toggle to Craftables" and "Drop Item".

Split Stack Y Triangle X The stack is split into 2 roughly equal stacks.
Transfer Stack T Hold A Hold Cross AZR The stack you hover over is transferred from one inventory currently being accessed to the other.
Transfer Half-Stack ⇧ Shift + T Press Y, then Hold A Press Triangle, then Hold Cross Half of the stack you hover over is transferred from one inventory currently being accessed to the other.
Transfer Half-Stack Ctrl + Left×2 None Half of the stack you double click is transferred from one inventory currently being accessed to the other.
Transfer Item Ctrl + T OR Left×2 A + A Cross+Cross One item from the stack you hover over is transferred from one inventory currently being accessed to the other.
Transfer Five Items ⇧ Shift+Left×2 None Five items from the stack you double click are transferred from one inventory currently being accessed to the other.
Toggle Item Labels Q Press Right Stick Press Right Stick Turns on/off labels on items.
Toggle to Craftables V R1 While in your inventory, toggles to the craftables screen
Equip item ⇧ Shift + 0-9 Cross to select the item, then Right Stick to the hotbar, then Cross Equip item in the selected slot of your hotbar
Unequip item Ctrl + 0-9 Right Stick to the hotbar, then Cross x2 Unequip item from the selected slot of your hotbar
Repair Item E Press Y Press Triangle Press X Repair Item


Building


Action PC (default) Xbox PlayStation Switch Notes
Flip direction E Y Triangle X Flips the direction of a structure before placing.
Snap point cycle Q or Z when placing an object RB R1 LB Find the correct snap point when placing walls, floors, ceilings, fences, and other objects.

RTS Mode


The following Controls are for the RTS mode when riding the  Exo-Mek. The Exo-Mek Tekgram is required, which is earned by defeating at any difficulty  Rockwell Prime. Single Player Survivors and server admins can use the Creative Mode to bypass the Tekgram limitation. In any case, using the RTS mode still will consume  Element as Exo-Mek fuel.

Toggle RTS Mode Middle LB + Up L1 + Up Switches on-off the RTS mode while riding the  Exo-Mek
Center Camera on Player R LB + Left Stick L1 + Left Stick Moves the camera and centers it on the Survivor.
Center Camera on Selection Q LB + Right Stick L1 + Right Stick Moves the camera and centers on selected tames.
Select Dino(s) Left LT L2 Selects one (or multiple) tame(s) covered by the selection cursor.
Select All Dinos Left x2 LT x2 L2 x2 Selects all tames seen by the camera
Select All of Class ⇧ Shift + Left x2 RB + LT x2 R1 + L2 x2 Adds all tames of the same class (Entity ID) seen by the camera to the tames selection.
Remove Class from Selection Ctrl + Left x2 RB + RT + LT x2 R1 + R2 + L2 x2 Removes all tames of the same class (Entity ID) seen by the camera to the tames selection.
Issue Order Right RT R2 Issue an order on selected Tames.
Stop Selected Dino(s) X LB + RT L1 + R2 Cancels an order and stops the selected Tame(s).
Select Group Hotbar key (Tap) Hotbar key (Tap) Hotbar key (Tap) Selects a RTS group. Note this will not select any tame in the normal Tame Groups accessible trough the Survivor menu. RTS groups are abound to a specific Exo-Mek instance and they will vanish once the Exo-Mek is frozen in a Cryopod or it's destroyed by enemy forces. Also, changing Exo-Mek will not give access to the RTS groups made by another Exo-Mek.
Center Camera on Group Hotbar key (x2 Tap) Hotbar key (x2 Tap) Hotbar key (x2 Tap) Moves the camera on the selected RTS group. Note that the centroid point will be used when multiple tames are in the same RTS group.
Assign Selection to Group Hotbar key (Hold) Hotbar key (Hold) Hotbar key (Hold) Assigns the selected tame(s) to a specific RTS group.
Add Group to Selection ⇧ Shift + Hotbar key (Tap) RB + Hotbar key (Tap) R1 + Hotbar key (Tap) Adds a RTS group to the currently selected tame(s).
Add Selection to Group ⇧ Shift + Hotbar key (Hold) RB + Hotbar key (Hold) R1 + Hotbar key (Hold) Adds the currently selected tame(s) to a RTS group.
Remove Group to Selection Ctrl + Hotbar key (Tap) RB + RT + Hotbar key (Tap) R1 + R2 + Hotbar key (Tap) Removes a RTS group to the currently selected tame(s).
Remove Selection to Group Ctrl + Hotbar key (Hold) RB + RT + Hotbar key (Hold) R1 + R2 + Hotbar key (Hold) Removes the currently selected tame(s) to a RTS group.
Toggle Keybind Help UI Selection to Group ⇧ Shift + Middle LB + Down L1 + Down Switches on-off the RTS help graphics interface from bottom-left of the screen.
