The Ceratosaurus (or just Cerato) is the first creature from the mod ARK Additions[1] to be added to ARK: Survival Ascended.
Dossier
Ceratosaurus punctura
TimeLate Jurassic
DietCarnivore
TemperamentExtremely Aggressive
- Wild
While I'm surprised I haven't encountered them sooner, I'd rather them just vanish all-together. Ceratosaurus is as ruthless as they are quick. While not the most damaging carnivores you'll encounter, they are certainly some of the most persistent. I've seen these creatures even exhibit a sort of... stalking behavior unlike anything else I've seen on The Island. While they may not make themselves known to you immediately, they certainly know where YOU are.
- Domesticated
The spines on Ceratosaurus have a very unique and powerful trait: Venom! This hemotoxin has the bizarre reaction with blood, making it incredibly nutritious to Carnivores. The more intense the venom infection, the more nutritious the blood becomes. I've witnessed tribes that have managed to tame these beasts use it to great effect against larger threats, and even the Island's guardians! Perhaps this desire to devour envenomed prey can be used against them...?

---|
When using the secondary attack (aka: the Horn Thrust or the Tail Spin), the target that is hit will be applied with the Blood Vemon debuff. Whenever the debuff is applied and whenever the Cerato continues to attack that target, it will apply a healing surge to your Cerato. This also heals nearby tamed carnivores (ex: Raptor, Rex, etc).
When sprinting, it will build up a speed momentum, once reaching 75% running speed or above, the Cerato will perform a more powerful horn thrust attack.

Weakness
Using long-range weaponry is useful in avoiding them using bleed attacks, however, be wary of their speed once they target you. Using a creature with good knockback on attacks is also effective, allowing you to avoid most bleed attacks if the Cerato is kept at bay.
Utility
Roles
Boss Healer - The Ceratosaurus' "blood explosion" heals creatures more the more the Cerato attacks.
Taming
Taming Method
Taming a Ceratosaurus involves a relatively simple taming process, but requires your character to be level 75. You will need to hunt wild Ceratosaurus in order to obtain their Venom Spines. These are used to craft a Hemogoblin Cocktail, which are restricted to an engram unlocked at level 75.
Once you have located a Ceratosaurus of your choice, you will need to feed one of your tames the cocktail, which will give it a status effect that will attract wild Ceratosaurus. When the Ceratosaurus attacks the creature with the status effect, it will slowly become "blood-drunk" over time. Once it has become totally drunk, you can then begin to passive feed them. It should be noted however that higher-level Ceratosaurus will take longer to become drunk and will require more feedings.
It is recommended to use tames that have a lot of health and equip them with high-quality saddles. Creatures with natural damage reduction such as Stegosaurus are recommended.
It is unknown if the Ceratosaurus can be placed in a trap to prevent it from wandering or running away, or if it needs space to roam while taming.
Notes
For information pertaining specifically to the real-world Ceratosaurus, see the relevant Wikipedia article.
- Ceratosaurus punctura roughly translates to "pricking horned lizard".
- Ceratosaurus is the second creature originating from a mod to be added to the game, the first being Fenrir from Fjordur.
- Ceratosaurus is also the first creature originating from a mod to not be added in a DLC (as free maps are technically DLC).
- Ceratosaurus' design, "default"/dossier color scheme, and abilities may have been inspired by (and also a reference to) the monster Espinas from the Monster Hunter franchise. Espinas is a large wyvern with green scales and red thorn-like spikes. It is known for spitting fireballs laced with poison and relentlessly charging at hunters.
- Ceratosaurus's eyes are reminiscent to that of a Tokay Gecko.
- With its build-up speed, the Ceratosaurus is currently the fastest creature in ASA, beating the Gallimimus.
