Overview
The Western Approach is a region in the central west coast of the Island, close to the Whitesky Peak and the Volcano.
This region is located between the sea and the inner areas of the Island, and it is divided into a coastal area and a hilly, forested one, both mostly divided by cliffs. Although it is labeled as "medium" difficulty, the coastal area is actually good for low-levels, even beginners. A promontory in the mid-western side is a good spot to establish an early base; it is easily identified by its shape and the huge tree at the top. This promontory offers a relatively big area protected by cliffs, easily closed by a wall from the small plain in the east. This high position also offers great views of the surrounding beaches and the sea, helping greatly to spot potencial threats from afar. There is a "ramp" connecting the beach with the top of the promontory, as well as a closer river that supplies water and Rare Flower. Creatures rarelly posse a threat, except Dilophosaur and the ocassional Raptor. Basic resources are easily available, including great rocks at the tip of the promontory which also help to protect it.
The northern part of the coast is a corridor between the sea and a cliff. If traveling north after the promontory a small, rocky river is found. It descends from the forest by a waterfall, falling again to the sea. This point is tall, narrow and with abundance of wood and stone. This point is the coastal northern point of the region. In the south the landscape is more open, with smaller, softer hills. A series of terraces over cliffs separate the coast from the interior. Here the landscape is different and more hostile, with large amounts of trees and tall hills. This combination greatly reduces visibility, something that benefit the dangerous creatures that roam this area.
The Approach is an important region on the west coast, as it acts as a crossroads: it connects the south with the mountains of the north, and the coast with the center of the Island, granting a fast access to the Volcano.
Surroundings
North from the Approach, beyond a river and waterfalls, are located The Western Plains, north-east is the Volcano, beyond a river to the East there's the Deep Island, Southward is the Southern Jungle. An underwater cave can be found in the ocean West from the Approach, at the coordinates 50.5°/11.2°.
