That's why this page was created instead of World Map. The Island is the name of the current map, so it will stay like this (or renamed, if the map get's renamed). The new map will get its own page. Currently there is a good deal of information about TheIsland on the page World Map. Is is ok if I move that content to this page?

Hi, sure, that's a good idea. The Island should contain information about the island itself, so e.g. the links to the maps can be there, too. World Map should be more general and contain general infos about the map and is not restricted to the map The Island (if there are more maps released).--Cadaeib (talk) 15:49, 26 January 2016 (UTC)

ImageMap extension is broken

This (version of this) extension creates an invalid a-element. This element is there to link to the image's page when clicking the small "Enlarge" icon in the lower right corner below the picture of the map with the clickable regions. It is noted as <a href="..."/> but the a-element is never self-closing, it has to have a separate closing tag </a> even if there is no content. The result of this error is that browsers do not recognize the intended end of this a-element. They don't care of any / before a >, they just ignore this character. So the link is "extended" until the next occurence of an a-element. You can see this error below the heading "Regions". The text "There are several regions on the Island." as well as the following heading "North / Northeast" including the opening [ before "edit | edit source" is linking to the image page. This is not intended and you can't fix it in the page's wiki code (except of removing the <imagemap> at all). You will have to fix the ImageMap extension which is generating this broken html code. The MediaWiki page for the ImageMap extension (can't link to there, your watchdog prevents this) however does it right. So this error seems to be fixed already in a later version than the one included in this wiki. Just thinking aloud, no need to answer. This is a bit weird. They use PHP's DOMDocument to create the structure of the elements. Then they use intentionally saveXML() not saveHTML() to get XHTML-compliant output. This leads to an empty a-element which is in XML correctly expressed as <a.../>, but is still invalid XHTML. Browsers usually don't care about XML compliance, they interpret the HTML code according to the HTML rules, that's why the / is ignored and the a-element stays open. Now the weird part. www.mediawiki.org's Special:Version lists a version of the ImageMap extension, that still contains the saveXML(), but on the page www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:ImageMap the example produces apparently correct HTML. I don't like creating accounts for one-time actions. Maintaining these accounts is not worth for me.

If you have access to the installation of this wiki here, or you know someone that has access, or someone with access reads this, just correct it yourself. It is in the file ImageMap_body.php. There is only one occurence of saveXML(). Fixed it with a little "hack". Inserted [[#dummy| ]] that adds another link at the next possible place after the broken one that closes the former. Flachdachs (talk) 16:03, 20 July 2016 (UTC)

Naming

Look! Here is real proof that the official map has got a BRAND NEW name!

This does not prove anything. Let me expain the situation for you: The term "ARK" refers to any map of the game. The Island is an Ark, The Center is an Ark as well (proof: The Patch Notes say "Procedurally Generated ARKs" are coming soon, which clearly shows that the term ARK doesn't refer to any specific map, but is a synonym for ANY map.

However, before the introduction of The Center, there was only one map, thus it was also the only ARK and sometimes referred to as "The ARK". The marked text in the menu screenshot you link was not renamed or changed, it was like that from the very beginning. (PROOF: see this video from 2 days after game launch, timestamp 1:09). However, it was always called "The Island" (PROOF: same video, timestamp 0:45).

CONCLUSION: You are wrong, nothing was ever renamed. The map was called "The Island" since the beginning, but referred to as "The ARK" in the main menu, because at the time being, it made no difference. The name of the map is still "The Island", so I will move this page back shortly. --TMHWK (talk) 19:17, 4 July 2016 (UTC)

One instance of the map being referred to as "The ARK" when all other instances (game files, dev posts[1][2][3], the "map" column when joining servers) refer to it as "The Island" and the note about the procedurally generated ARKs (plural) suggest "ARK" to be synonymous with map, implies that the one instance is a mistake, or more accurately, a leftover from back when there was and would only ever be one map, not that the one instance is correct and all the others are wrong. If this one instance is all that you are basing the name change on, then I'm sorry but it's simply very far from definitive.

Misplaced regions on Interactive Regionmap

The highlighted regions on the interactive region-map for this place are misplaced. Looks like they are mapped for a smaller range than the actual size used in by the map image.--Alessio89 (talk) 17:26, 23 April 2022 (UTC)
