Star Dolphin is a Mission in Genesis: Part 2. This mission has the player(s) riding an Astrodelphis fitted with the Astrodelphis Starwing Saddle.

Overview

The goal of this mission is to get past Rockwell's defenses and defeat the boss at the end, while flying on an Astrodelphis. As the mission is heavily based on Star Fox, experience with that game can greatly help here.

Mission

Phase 1: Spoof the first firewall

As the level scrolls, you will pass by various enemies that are either stationary or moving around and trying to shoot you. Destroy as many of them as possible, as in doing so you will rack up points that you will need to unlock the gate at the end of the section (if you do not have enough, the Astrodelphis will crash into it and the mission will fail). Dodge obstacles and try to collect powerups (some are floating, others drop from enemies when destroyed), grenades and laser upgrades are very useful for destroying stronger enemies. Charging up a plasma ball and locking onto an enemy is a good way to score points.

Enemies:

Phase 2: Spoof the second firewall

Same as the first phase, but longer and requires even more points to open the second gate. Towards the end, there are blue lasers that will damage the Astrodelphis and a landed hover skiff that has more health than the other enemies but can be destroyed.

Enemies:

Phase 3: Defend the replication subsystem

From here on out, you are in open space. There is an Astrocetus in the middle, and enemies from which you must defend it. There are several waves; two pairs of hover skiffs will show up at different times to attack it, coming in with an impenetrable shield that disappears shortly after they appear, red and green comets show up from time to time that will hit the Astrocetus for big damage and must be destroyed, and in one of the later waves there will also be a pod of hostile Astrodelphis also trying to shoot the whale down. Destroy them as fast as you can, especially the comets as they will damage the whale a lot. Once the final wave is completed, the Astrocetus will fly away and the boss will show up to challenge you.

Protect:  Astrocetus

Enemies:

Phase 4: Defeat Androck

A different version of the Corrupted Master Controller will appear, and his four shields will protect him from damage. Destroy all of them with your lasers, and he will become vulnerable to damage for a time or until a threshold is reached, after which he will regain the shields. With each threshold (at around 2/3 and 1/3 of his max health respectively), the shields will require more damage to be destroyed. He has several attacks such as firing purple lasers from his eyes, and will use more different kinds the less health he has. Enemies will periodically spawn to attack you, and will sometimes drop valuable powerups such as health when destroyed.

Enemies:

The mission ends once the Corrupted Master Controller's health reaches 0. The results screen will tally your final score by adding your remaining health and time (the more, the better) before teleporting you back.

Notes/Trivia/Bugs

  • There is a bug on Gamma Difficult that wont let you complete the mission after you kill the boss. You get the loot and the score but you fail the mission when you go back to Genesis 2 map.
  • Destroying a hover skiff during the second phase will remove it from the third phase, making the latter easier as there will be fewer hover skiffs to defend the Astrocetus from.
  • This mission is a tribute to Star Fox. There are several pieces of evidence to support this:
    • The mission name is similar to "Star Fox", only with the word "dolphin" instead of "fox".
    • The maximum amount of players is four, curiously enough as no other mission in either Genesis: Part 1 or Genesis: Part 2 has this sort of maximum. This lines up with the main cast of Star Fox being a team consisting of four characters.
    • The gameplay is identical to the aforementioned game. In both games you can shoot lasers, charge up a plasma ball that locks onto enemies, launch bombs that can also be detonated early, perform barrel rolls and somersaults, and collect powerups that upgrade the lasers, add to the bomb count, and regain health. The environment also scrolls in a similar manner, following a set path until specific points.
    • The Astrodelphis with its saddle resembles an Arwing, which is a ship that players fly in Star Fox. In addition, holding H will reveal that the name of the Astrodelphis is Peppy, likely referencing Peppy Hare.
    • At one point, HLNA will glitch during the mission and make unintelligible sounds. These sounds are very similar to the noises that characters in the first Star Fox game make when talking, resembling that of Fox McCloud in particular. She will also accidentally comment on her vocal processor going "furry", also likely referencing Fox McCloud who is a furred animal.
    • The boss is called Androck in the mission objective that pops up when he appears. This name is based on that of Andross, the final boss of Star Fox.
    • During the fight against Androck, HLNA will say several quotes that are all direct references to Star Fox 64:
      • "So Rockwell, your virus shows its TRUE form." - references Fox McCloud at the beginning of Venom Hard Route boss ("So Andross, you show your true form!")
      • "Got his shield analyzed!" - references Slippy Toad's lines during boss fights
      • "What a cocky little freak!" - references the Sector Y boss ("Cocky little freaks!")
      • "Never give up, Survivor. Trust your instincts." - references Peppy Hare, who says almost the exact line but without the word "survivor"
      • "He's going down... but he's not taking us with him." - references the Venom Hard Route boss when he is defeated ("If I go down, I'm taking you with me!")
    • The results screen includes the message "Mission Accomplished!". Star Fox uses the same message for a successfully completed level.
    • Alongside a classic score system, the mission also has a "hit" counter (the number of enemies destroyed), which Star Fox also uses.
  • If scanning Corrupted Avatars in the mission their class name is Corrupted Survivor similar to the Corrupted Survivors in the Terminus mission. Here is a spawn command for theese "Avatars": summon CorruptHuman_WithTekRifle_Character_BP_whalerescue_C.
  • Everything in the mission except Astrodelphis and Astrodelphis bot is oversized:
    • The Corrupted Survivors stand as tall as allosaurus
    • The Androck is as big as Rockwell Prime
    • The Drones have a wingspan of a Tapejara/Tropeo
    • The hoverskiffs are x2 size
