The Alpha Fire Wyvern is one of the Alpha Creatures in the Scorched Earth DLC of ARK: Survival Evolved.
Basic Info
The Alpha Wyvern is a bigger, stronger version of the normal Wyvern which rarely spawns inside The World Scar.
Behavior
The Alpha Wyvern will chase you when you're near. If you're escaping and there's something closer than you to it, it will change course for easier prey. If there's nothing else around, it will fly up and into open areas until it runs out of stamina, where it will then start the same process again.
Appearance
The Alpha Fire Wyvern will have a distinct red glow around it. this makes it easy to notice from other fire wyverns.
Color Scheme and Regions
This section displays the Alpha Fire Wyvern's natural colors and regions. For demonstration, the regions below are colored red over an albino Alpha Fire Wyvern. The colored squares shown underneath each region's description are the colors that the Alpha Fire Wyvern will randomly spawn with to provide an overall range of its natural color scheme. Hover your cursor over a color to display its name and ID.
This information can be used to alter the Alpha Fire Wyvern's regions by entering cheat SetTargetDinoColor <ColorRegion> <ColorID> in the cheat console. For instance, cheat SetTargetDinoColor 0 6 would color the Alpha Fire Wyvern's "body" magenta.
Variants
Bone Fire Wyvern
Bone Fire Wyvern is the Skeletal variant of Alpha Fire Wyvern found during Fear Evolved events. It is stronger than the normal species and is looking like a skeleton. It is not tameable.

- 1These are the base speeds of the tamed creature at 100% Movement Speed, i.e. without a possible taming bonus.
- 2These are the speeds of the creature once tamed including a possible taming bonus and no imprinting bonus.
- For a comparison of the speeds of all creatures, see Base Creature Speeds.
Wild Stats Level-up
Type in values of a wild creature to see on which stats it's emphasized. Green values on a high-level creature are very good for breeding. If you have already tamed your creature you can try to recover the breeding stats with an external tool.[1]
Alpha Fire Wyvern
The stat-calculator does not work in the mobile-view, see here for alternatives: Apps
Note that after the creature is tamed it gets bonuses on some stats depending on the taming effectiveness. This makes it hard to retrieve the levels on a tamed creature, so this tool is only for wild ones, but gives a first impression, how well the stats are distributed.
Combat
General
Strategy
Weaponry
Rock Elementals, with their rock throw attack, can easily make short work of Alpha Fire Wyverns.
Rocket Homing Missiles are also useful tools against them. It may be a little tricky to lock on to one, but most Alpha Fire Wyverns should take no more than 10 rockets.
A high level
Fire Wyvern can easily kill most Alpha Fire Wyverns by just hovering in the air and biting, thanks to its immunity to fire breath attacks.
A few
Velonasaurs leveled primarily in health can make easy work of an Alpha Fire Wyvern if put in Turret Mode. Ideally, they should be kept at a safe distance from the wyvern through the use of a trap or a structure.
When playing on Ragnarok, Alpha Fire Wyverns can spawn in the SW region and be seen flying around the area. it is possible to access this area with a raft that has been built with a number of
Plant Species X on it as a mobile turret ship.
Stone Structures can be used to protect the player while the
Plant Species X handle the dirty work. Note that no experience will be given to the player for the kill if this method is used, but for solo players not looking to expend too many resources, it is an easy way to obtain
Wyvern Milk.
Dangers
They are extremely powerful when fought directly, so guerilla tactics prove quite useful against it. Like its normal
Fire Wyvern counterparts, its level can be as high as 190 on official server settings, so caution should be taken when fighting one.
Weakness
The Alpha Fire Wyvern is immune to the
Fire Wyvern's breath attack, but it does take damage from the breath attacks of
Ice,
Lightning, and
Poison Wyverns. Furthermore, a
Phoenix with high melee damage can tank the fire breath attack and make short work of the alpha with bites.
Notes/Trivia
- The Alpha Fire Wyvern and the
Alpha Blood Crystal Wyvern are the only flying Alpha variants in the game. - The Alpha Fire Wyvern bears resemblance to Smaug from the Hobbit, a prelude of J.R Tolkien's Lord of the rings
- This is the first reference to Tolkien's work to appear in the game, followed by the Weathertop hilltop on The Island and the castle ruins inspired by Weathertop and Helm's Deep on the Valguero map.
