The Recurve Bow is an advanced ranged Weapon in the Primitive+-DLC of ARK: Survival Evolved. It can be unlocked at level 65 and needs Beeswax to craft which makes it a late-game weapon. Once unlocked the Recurve Bow is the most powerful weapon that uses arrows as ammo. Its damage and rate of fire is slightly better than that of a Crossbow. Using stone arrows, it deals 110 damage with 100% weapon damage while a Crossbow deals 95 damage. When firing Obsidian Arrows the damage of an Recurve Bow is even twice as much as of Using a Crossbow (150 vs. 75). This makes the Recurve Bow the best choice for obsidian arrows, which are ineffective with Crossbows.

Usage

The Recurve Bow is used like a Bow and has to be loaded manually, but loading time is much shorter and even shorter than that of a Crossbow. Like other bows, the Recurve Bow cannot be used underwater. As usually, weapon damage depends on weapon quality and type of arrows. A Recurve Bow can fire all types of arrows and can therefore be used to tame creatures with Tranq Arrows.

Shooting a tranq arrow at a creature increases torpidity instantly by 2x of the weapon damage (40 for Trang Arrows) and gives additional torpor equal to 2.5x weapon damage over the course of the next 4 seconds. Taking this into account, a primitive Recurve Bow deals 180 torpor with one shot, while a Crossbow deals 157.5. After 4 seconds the torpidity bar immediately starts to drop. The effects of multiple shots in this 4-second interval are stacked instantly, so you don't have to wait between shots until the 4 seconds are over.

Flame Arrows deal an instant damage of about 100 and set the target on fire which deals additional damage. In total, a single Flame Arrow fired from a Recurve Bow deals 320 damage in a few seconds to most creatures.

Notes

  • Does the most damage of current Bows in-game as of Prim+ v1.4 on PC.
  • Many creatures take more damage from headshots. Flying creatures take an additional 50% damage. All of these bonuses also apply on the torpor effect from Tranq Arrows.
