Preserving Salt is an item introduced in Scorched Earth and also available on Ragnarok, Valguero, Crystal Isles, Genesis: Part 2, Lost Island and Fjordur.
Usage
When placed into any inventory or container, Preserving Salt will double the spoil timers of all perishables in that container (player and tame inventories included). For example, Raw Meat spoils after 10 minutes in the player inventory, but when putting Preserving Salt into the inventory, it will extend the spoil timer to 20 minutes. Preserving Salt can even be used in combination with Preserving Bins or Fenrir, for maximum spoilage time. The preserving effect only works per one stack of six preserving salt at a time. Having multiple stacks within an inventory will not increase the effect for a longer duration. This means that the maximum amount of time the spoilage is doubled is 2 hours.
When placed into a Vessel, the spoil time is multiplied by 50000, reaching up to over 694.44 days for later use.
Common useful scenarios:
- Taming carnivores, to increase the spoil time of single stack items such as Raw Prime Meat or Raw Mutton.
- Help with transport of raw meat for cooking, again, especially for single stack items.
- Avoid spoiling food while hand feeding babies or on a Maewing when you have a large number of growing tames that require vast amounts of food.
- Reduce pressure of harvesting fresh baby raising supplies for consumption while they are growing and need further feeds such as for the Nameless Venom for Rock Drakes and Wyvern Milk for Wyverns.
- Decrease losses when using a Cooking Pot (as it is slow and tedious) or Industrial Cooker (as you'll probably want to prepare large batches).
Unpreservable items
The following items are unaffected by Preserving Salt:
Notes
- Does not work for Non-Legacy Servers.
- It can not be used in a Feeding Trough or Tek Trough, as it will not accept Preserving Salt into its inventory, however the Maewing will accept it.
- It cannot be put inside Refrigerator, but as Fenrir counts as a mobile ice box for perishable, placing inside it provides double the refrigerator preservation timer for perishables.
