Habitat

The Ossidon is a mammal in Lost Colony. It is a monstrous, demonic-looking primate of raw endurance and cryogenic elemental might adapted to survive in the frozen wastes of Arat Prime.

Temperament

Relentless

Project Ossidon has already yielded the ideal apex protector for our people’s needs! Experimentation with the infusion of Red Element into creatures engineered for hardiness has given us a truly fearsome anthropoid that can dominate the Antarctic wastes. By design, these noble snow-beasts can be sorted at a distance by adaptation. Each specimen morphologically expresses its most useful genomic trait. The healthiest Ossidon might display a magnificent crest, while the deadliest will flash the longest teeth.

Applications

Our biotech teams are laboring around the clock to gestate and domesticate as many Ossidons as possible, should the day come when they may be needed to defend against a Titan. In the near term, these glorious behemoths will be employed as our peacekeepers and guardians. Ossidon was engineered to produce excessive quantities of cryogenic mucus. This foul substance is the creature’s greatest weapon, whether rolled into an icy wrecking ball or spit in a shower of bone-chilling slush. Any rider will feel unstoppable astride one of these imposing brutes! Our mounted forces will soon become as integral to the defense of this outpost as our protective energy shield. And should any of my subjects – my esteemed colleagues – feel tempted to challenge my rule, the Ossidons under my command would prove to be an effective deterrent…

Appearance

The Ossidon is a huge, frost-adapted ape-like creature with a bulky gorilla build, thick pale fur, and icy blue accents that make it blend into frozen environments. Its face is primate-like but more monstrous, with cold, glowing eyes and a crown-like icy crest that grows larger on stronger individuals. Powerful arms end in long, curved claws used for slashing and creating its icy projectiles. Frost clings to its fur and gathers around its limbs when it uses its cryogenic abilities, giving it the appearance of a mythical snow guardian built to survive — and dominate — the harshest frozen landscapes.

Behavior

The Ossidon roams cold, frozen biomes and behaves like a territorial apex predator, generally ignoring creatures unless they get too close. When approached, it turns aggressive fast. In combat, it fights with powerful claw attacks and uses icy abilities to keep enemies at a distance. It will also form bolus-like, slush-like spheres from the ground to hurl at intruders.

Wild Stats Level-up

Type in values of a wild creature to see on which stats it's emphasized. Green values on a high-level creature are very good for breeding. If you have already tamed your creature you can try to recover the breeding stats with an external tool.[1]

Ossidon

The stat-calculator does not work in the mobile-view, see here for alternatives: Apps

Note that after the creature is tamed it gets bonuses on some stats depending on the taming effectiveness. This makes it hard to retrieve the levels on a tamed creature, so this tool is only for wild ones, but gives a first impression, how well the stats are distributed.

Abilities

Active

Claw Swipe
LeftRTR2ZR
  • The Ossidon swipes with its claws for 95 damage.
  • Can be used every 0.67s by both a rider and the AI.

Claw Clap
LeftRTR2ZR
  • The Ossidon claps with its claws for 190 damage.
  • This attack replaces the third consecutive Claw Swipe execution.
  • Can be used every 1.15s by both a rider and the AI.

Icicle Rain
Hold Right LT L2 LT + Left RT R2 RT
  • The Ossidon throws some destroyable Icicles to its front that last for 60 seconds on the field. The Icicles' throwable distance and their amount per round scale with  Oxygen and  Food stats, respectively.
  • Icicles applies  Frostbite debuff for 10 seconds on ~6 meters around them.
  • Can be used every 30s by both a rider and the AI.

Bolus
  • The Ossidon creates a mud/snowball with the terrain.
  • The Bolus needs to be charged with terrain material before being used to damage targets. It damages targets for 100 damage.
  • The Bolus can carry multiple creatures and players at the same time; the carriable amount and their sizes scale with  Health and  Weight stats, respectively.
  • Can be used every 90s by both a rider and the AI.

Turn
  • While enabled, the Ossidon turns around on its own axis to the direction of the camera. It can be toggled on and off freely.

Jump
  • The Ossidon jumps.

Passive

Missing.png Monstrous Affection

The Ossidon gains trust with each rider individually. Every 90 seconds of being ridden by the same rider increases the  Monstrous Affection stack buff by 1 up to a maximum of 20. Each stack increases every leveable stat and  Movement Speed by 0.5% whenever that rider is riding it.

Individual Attributes

The Ossidon changes its appearance and combat efficiency depending on its stats. Each leveable stat changes additional values:

  •  Health Increases overall size and number of victims Ossidon can carry in its Bolus.
  •  Stamina Increases head crest size and the duration Ossidon can roll its Bolus.
  •  Oxygen Increases fur and the distance Ossidon can fire its Icicle Rain.
  •  Food Increases stomach size and the number of icicles Ossidon can fire during its Icicle Rain.
  •  Weight Increases muscle size and the maximum creature size Ossidon can absorb into its Bolus.
  •  Melee Damage Increases claw size.

Free Movement

The Ossidon can freely move in all directions, including forward, backward, left, and right.

Combat

Ossidon are highly dangerous creatures which are not to taken lightly. Using a strong tame such as  Thylacoleo or  Rex is recommended, as smaller tames can be quickly integrated into the rolling goo ball and rendered effectively useless.

In case of Lost or Revenant Ossidons, they are even tougher to tackle as they always have backup in the form of other Lost or Revenant. Caution is adviced, along with strong imprinted tames.

Utility

Roles

  • Tank: The Ossidon has a high health pool and strong melee attacks, allowing it to absorb significant damage and protect riders in combat, especially in cold environments.
  • Crowd Control: Its Icicle Rain ability slows and weakens groups of enemies, making it effective at controlling the battlefield and disrupting enemy formations.
  • Support Buff Provider: The “Monstrous Affection” buff stacks over time when ridden, increasing stats and movement speed, improving its effectiveness in long engagements.
  • Boss Killer — The Ossidon’s combination of high health, strong melee attacks, and ranged icy abilities makes it a durable and powerful combatant against large, tough bosses.

Taming

Ossidon taming is a fairly complicated procedure, so be ready to be patient. At first you must approach an Ossidon and tranq it to 50% torpor. At this point, the Ossidon will become sleepy and you must ride it.

Upon mounting, press right click to form the bolus. In the bolus you must capture a certain number of icicles (shot out by the Ossidon itself at intervals) and wild creatures.

It is recommended to get 5 creatures in and then prioritise icicles, as you can immediately recapture creatures once they've been released from the bolus.

Every icicle captured also improves taming efficiency, which drops by 25% every time you mount the Ossidon. Capturing the number of icicles specified refills taming effectiveness to 100.0%

Notes

  • The Ossidon's design and appearance may be influenced by the Wendigo, a mythological creature or evil spirit originating from Algonquian folklore.
  • The Ossidon is stated in its Data to be the “Apex Protector” for the people of Arat Prime, likely making it the apex predator of Lost Colony, similarly to the  Giganotosaurus on The Island or the  Wyverns on Scorched Earth.
    • Community Crunch 480, however, states that the Ossidon was " once dismissed as a mutation gone wrong", implying that its creation was more of an accident before it was likely perfected at Arat Prime for its role as “Apex Protector”.
  • The Ossidon was available on other Maps (except for The Island), until the release of Lost Colony.
    • This marks the third time where a creature was released for a limited time on other maps before its debut map release, the first was the  Tropeognathus, and the second was the  Veilwyn.
