Combat

This section describes how to fight against the Savage Acrocanthosaurus.

General

The Savage Acro is designed to not be your average left-clicking boss fight. The fight is incredibly challenging, but equally rewarding, and is designed to be an end game challenge for those who play with ARK Additions, and will require good strategies, planning, and a variety of powerful well-bred tames. Its various attacks can easily melt through creatures that have hundreds of thousands of health.

Strategy

Recommended Tames

  • Brontosaurus, Megachelons, and Paracers can act as mobile turret towers to enable ranged DPS on the Savage acro if players have beefy tames that have hundreds of thousands of hitpoints to distract it.
  • Allosaurus is a great all-around mount against the Savage acro as it has DPS and speed like a shadowmane without the ultimate and other abilities. With maxed out 254 stats in health and melee with mutations and leveled up speed to around 150%, and points put into health and melee, allos can whittle the Savage acro's health with hit-and-run tactics.
  • Tek Stryders with the silence cannon attachment along with a shield attachment can act as support for other tames against the Savage Acro by making it unable to use its foot stomp and sonic boom roar attacks for 30 seconds.

Dangers

Relying on the conventional boss fight tactic of utilizing  Deinonychus for their bleed effects, or other creatures that cause debuffs to bosses, will lead to almost certain failure, as the Savage Acro is immune to all debuffs and environmental effects like lava, being a world-boss, to prevent players from cheesing the fight. It also has a variety of mechanics designed to prevent players from finding loopholes in avoiding its attacks, such as its long-range roar attack that is designed to stop players from flying above and shooting down, or running out of range. Certain meta tames such as Gigas, Reapers, Shadowmanes, and Rock Elementals suffer a more brutal damage debuff when facing the Savage Acro.

Aside from the ability to go into a more powerful form of adrenaline like its non-savage kin, the Savage Acrocanthosaurus' most dangerous weapon is its dangerous attacks. Before performing these a message will appear on screen as a warning to players to steer clear, which they should heed. Outside of adrenaline, the Savage Acro will perform three very high damage stomps, but within adrenaline, which is marked by the same red glow as the non boss counterpart and a "Savage Acro is getting really angry" message, its dangerous attack becomes highly devastating. Upon reaching the damage threshold to trigger the dangerous attack, the Savage Acro will draw in air, pulling even the largest creatures towards it. It will then produce a guttural roar that deals immense damage that hits multiple times. This attack is capable of shredding through the health of even slightly mutated  ARK Additions/Brachiosaurus, so avoid it at all costs, and if worst comes to worst, say your final goodbyes to your tames unless they have insane health pools. Damage from the boss can range to 5k to hundreds of thousands of damage in a single attack.

Weaknesses

After performing a powerful attack, the Savage Acrocanthosaurus will roar in a taunting manner, and this will provide a brief window of attack where its normal damage cap of 2500 per hit increases to 6250 damage per hit. This is the best time to move in with your tames to get that damage in!

Also, as the Savage Acro is a world boss, this allows a player to bring as many dinos and back up reinforcements they feel they'd need, along with the fact that a player can technically have "infinite" respawns and re-attempts throughout the 1-hour time limit.

It's not confirmed, but it appears that firearms (tested with a minigun) are less likely to activate the adrenaline buff, making them the ideal attack during the taunt.

The Tek Stryder's silence cannon can turn off a Savage Acro's dangerous attacks for 30 seconds, allowing your tames to damage it more. The only ability that the Savage Acro can use is its adrenaline ability, so be prepared to have a lot of tames as backup if things go wrong.

Stegos are able to use their impale attack on a Savage Acro once its health falls around 400k health, allowing for crazy DPS in the last half of the battle. The impale can also make a Savage Acro unable to do anything until the stego runs out of stamina. Having multiple stegos impale it can make the Acro unresponsive.

Notes/Trivia

For information pertaining specifically to the real-world Savage Acrocanthosaurus, see the relevant Wikipedia article.

  • The Savage Acrocanthosaurus is the first boss type creature to come to ARK Additions
  • The mechanics and abilities of the Savage Acrocanthosaurus are a reference to and inspired by the Savage Deviljho, a more powerful variant of a monster from the popular game Monster Hunter, and the style of combat in those games, though the roar attack is likely inspired by the Brute Tigrex.
  • While the Savage Acrocanthosaurus itself has a variety of weapons from previous battles embedded in its skin, the costume it drops does not share these features.
  • It is possible to summon multiple Savage Acros and they can get mate boosted. When this happens, the timer will appear pink. So if a player wants an even bigger challenge, they can get it.
  • The theme music used whenever the Savage Acro is nearby is "Breathe it in Deep" by Hampus Naeselius, available on YouTube and Spotify.
