Wild

Trust me, you don’t want one of these creepy killers hunting you. Megaraptor picks off its victims one at a time, like the villain in an old-school slasher flick. And once you’ve been targeted, your stalker will scare away your friends and allies with its unnerving glare. You won’t see this monster coming until it’s right on top of you. That’s when Megaraptor pounces, pinning you down and scattering everyone nearby to leave you defenseless. Talk about a jump scare! The final indignity is that your death will give this beast the strength to shrug off any attempt to avenge you.

Domesticated

Before you can tame a Megaraptor, you’ll have to earn its respect. Find and claim its grisly altar of carcasses, then keep the enraged owner at bay with fire. Just make sure you stay on a constant swivel, because this fiend will fight like hell for its trophies. Manage to break one of these butchers, and you’ll share all the meat from its many kills. You’ll also gain an assassin eager to isolate and murder your enemies. But know that Megaraptor hunts alone. Uncomfortable around even its own kind, this army of one will lose its fighting edge around others.

Appearance

The Megaraptor is rather a big theropod similar in size to the  Carnotaurus with feathers across its body and spikes above its head. It is also armed with long claws and curved teeth, which are called ziphodont teeth, similar to the Komodo dragon, which shares with it the same stalking behavior.

Roles

Ambush Predator: Like an assassin, you can wait for the foe to pass by, then suddenly strike for high burst damage, and great for sneaking behind players or creatures to kill them fast without alerting others. (level up Melee Damage )

Stealth Hunter: Uses its silent movement and semi-invisibility to sneak up on prey or players without being noticed

Scout / Recon Unit: Travels fast and quietly to spy on enemy bases, find resources, or check danger zones.

Cave Explorer: Fits through most of the caves and handles cave environments well with its agility and double jump, and stealth ability.

Alpha Hunter: With good stats and pumping a lot of points in health, it can hunt smaller alpha creatures using speed and its bleed attack

Taming

The Megaraptor has a unique taming procedure, which only requires the use of a Torch, but it's recommended to bring durable armor and Medical Brews. Additional torches are also recommended if you only have access to primitive ones. If you have access, a Spring Drakeling on your shoulder will give you a lot of sustain against damage.

First, you must locate a small spire called a Megaraptor Altar. This is commonly placed where the Megaraptor spawns. The Megaraptor must also be in the general area to initiate the taming procedure. To start, equip the torch and interact with the altar. This will lock you to a small area around the altar and heavily obscure your vision. The Megaraptor will enter camouflage and approach you, then after a brief moment, it will attack you before entering camouflage again. You must swing the torch at the Megaraptor before it attacks you; successfully doing so will interrupt its attack and apply torpor to it, indicated by a bar near the bottom akin to when taming a Fasolasuchus. Simply repeat this process until the Megaraptor goes unconscious. Its preferred kibble is Exceptional Kibble but accepts the general carnivore diet for taming (Raw Mutton, Raw Prime Meat, Raw Meat, etc.).

There are a few things to note about this procedure: First of all, the torch has a longer cooldown between swings, which means you must time your swings rather than just swinging wildly. You can leave the altar at any time by using the button used to interact with the altar, but doing so will trigger a cooldown before you can interact with the altar again. Other creatures can disrupt you during this process, so this might be necessary.

Notes

For information pertaining specifically to the real-world Megaraptor, see the relevant Wikipedia article.

  • Despite the Megaraptor being the ninth Creature Vote winner, it has received backlash from fans due to it being another theropod dinosaur instead of something else.
  • The Megaraptor was primarily made by Garuga123, marking his first creature to be made since joining Studio WildCard, and not something for the mod Additions Ascended.
  • The Megaraptor's horror-themed abilities and traits are heavily inspired by the Night Feeder from Genndy Tartakovsky's Primal. A monstrous, enigmatic dinosaur that brutally killed its victims at night and was able to attack with unnatural stealth and speed.
    • The original submitter had also stated that Death from DreamWorks Puss in Boots: The Last Wish was another inspiration.
  • The Megaraptor is currently the second creature with a double jump, the first being the  Managarmr.
  • Megaraptorans form a clade of predatory theropod dinosaurs with unclear and controversial affinities to other tetanuran theropods. The first genus to be described, the namesake Megaraptor itself, alongside Fukuiraptor, were both identified as unusually large dromaeosaurs, related to Velociraptor and Deinonychus, due to the scythe-like handclaws being misidentified as sickle claws. Between the 90s and the 2010s, when the clade was formally defined, various members of the group were included in wholly unrelated groupings; for example, Megaraptor was redefined in the 2000s to be a megalosauroid, distantly related to Megalosaurus and Spinosaurus, and Aerosteon was considered to be a relative of Allosaurus. Nevertheless, megaraptorans attained peak diversity at the end of the Cretaceous, particularly in Patagonia, in modern-day Argentina. However, they appeared elsewhere, becoming apex predators in many places and reaching massive sizes. For example, in North Africa, the potentially dubious genus Bahariasaurus, if classified as a megaraptoran, grew up to 12.2 meters long, almost the size of a T. rex.
