Ambergris is a resource introduced in Genesis: Part 1 and also available on Genesis: Part 2 and Fjordur. It is used as ammunition to charge the  Astrocetus's bomb attack, and as  Food and comfort food for baby  Magmasaur (or force fed to adults to replenish 300  Health).

Obtaining

On Genesis: Part 1, Ambergris can be obtained by killing  Astrocetus, as well as by mining green-lined rocks in the lunar biome.

On Genesis: Part 2, it can be obtained by mining rocks in Space when the ringed asteroid is available (signified by white supply crates).

On Fjordur, Ambergris nodes can be found alongside the lava trench at the bottom of the Abyssal Depths cave, indicated by rocks that have visible Ambergris in them. Be wary when collecting it however, as dangerous predators such as  Mosasaur and  Tusoteuthis live in the cave.

Notes

  • Despite the description,  Astrocetus does not actively leave behind Ambergris.
  • Despite Lost Island having  Magmasaurs and the Ambergris being one of the hand-feeding options, you cannot get the resource there.
  • HLN-A describes Ambergris as "whale snot", but Ambergris is actually a waxy mucus produced in the intestines of sperm whales.
  • Ambergris can be stored in Feeding Troughs, Refrigerators and Tek Troughs (as opposed to other baby-raising Foods) expanding its decay rate.
  • Using an Ankylosaurus increases Ambergris harvesting efficiency.
